'Dumb and Dumber To' Set to Open November 14th, 2014

In a move that should surprise no one, Universal Studios has set a prime November 14th, 2014 for Dumb and Dumb To, the long-awaited sequel to one of the most popular comedy's of all-time (I write that in all seriousness).

The follow-up film that will open three weeks short of the original's 20th anniversary - December 6th, 1994 - marks the return of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as everyone's favorite dumb-duo, Harry and Lloyd, along with Peter and Bobby Farrelly back in the director's chairs.

The film follows a short but vague synopsis (see below) but expect some kind of trailer released before the holiday season's out announcing the return of modern stupidity:

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To.  The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

New "Fast & Furious 7" Images Remind Us Dwayne Johnson Is Massive

Most everybody I know has Twitter. From the four-year-old genius in the making tooling on his mother's pink iPhone 5c to the entire blue haired bingo team at Shady Pines, Twitter is everywhere. Not many people have a Twitter account like Dwayne Johson though. Almost 6 Million Followers and he's following nobody, not any of his famous actor friends, not even the President. So when Johjnson tweets, people are retweeting.

The powers that be behind Fast & Furious 7 are taking advantage of "The Behemoth Formerly Known As The Rock's" high profile Twitter status just like Hercules before it. See the photos below as Johnson hints at a return of his character Hobbs and an epic battle between himself and Jason Statham.

    “I didn’t bring the cavalry.. I AM the cavalry” – #HobbsTheBeast #FastAndFurious7 Call action…

Olympic Gold medalist, UFC/WWE Champs & lunatics – I’ve fought ‘em all. This was fun. #FastAndFurious #RockVsStatham

Go Home, Hollywood, You're Drunk - It's a Wonderful Life Getting a Sequel

Ten years ago, my old man and I were channel-surfing when we caught Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory; a childhood favorite for many including the Williams household. I leaned over and remarked, "You know they’re remaking that?" The words straight from his mouth, "NO, not every movie needs to be remade, you know."

One imagines my father, and fathers elsewhere, might suffer cardiac arrest at this headline from Variety. A sequel to It's a Wonderful Life is in the works. The Frank Capra/Jimmy Stewart Christmas classic everyone watches on NBC the first Saturday night of every December - one of the few films to quickly disappear from theaters but slowly become a national treasure that touched the hearts of the public, not seen since The Shawshank Redemption. Yes, for no logical reason, besides its IP value, it will exist.

Producers Bob Farnsworth and Allen J. Schwalb are interviewing with directors to tell the story of George Bailey, the grandson of Stewart's kind-hearted, but troubled, everyman shown how the world would be a better place if he wasn't born. An idea we should all laugh at since it's been done before as an homage to the Capra film, including a Beavis & Butthead Christmas special.

Warner Bros. Wants Javier Bardem For 'Pan' Villain, Blackbeard

Earlier this week it was announced director Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Hanna) was in-talks to helm Warner Bros. new take on the Peter Pan story, Pan.

Now, we get word that Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall) has been offered the lead villian role of Blackbeard, captain of the evil pirates who face-off against Peter Pan, the orphan boy taken to Neverland and raised among the natives.

Even though we've seen the Peter Pan myth played out numerous times over the years - the most recent being 2003's Peter Pan, the best in my opinion being 1991's Hook - it can't hurt when you get a talented director like Wright to take on the project along with a great actor like Bardem as the antagonist.

We'll keep you posted on this project.

First Set Photo From STAR WARS EPISODE VII; Yep, That's Star Wars.

Today from Bad Robot's Official Twitter came the first photo from production of Disney's Star Wars: Episode VII and it's nothing really newsworthy or spectacular; but it's there and kind of cool none-the-less.

While no roles have been cast or plot has been revealed; it's good to know R2D2 is back, right?

The photo shows J.J. Abrams and others posing with R2D2 in the first string of nerd-pandering pictures that will show off "iconic" characters and replicas despite the fact that either way the movie goes it is set to make probably $5 Billion dollars opening weekend and fix the United States' debt crisis while ushering in a new era of world-peace and then sweeping the Oscars.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J. J. Abrams (Super 8Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek)and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost ArkThe Empire Strikes BackReturn of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible – Ghost ProtocolJack RyanStar Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (TintinWar of the Worlds) serving as executive producers. John Williams is returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII.

Star Wars: Episode VII sweeps you to a galaxy far, far away on December 18, 2015.

Watch The Hollywood Reporter's 'Directors Roundtable'

This is actually the first year I've come upon what is seemingly an annual thing The Hollywood Reporter does around awards season.

They get a group of six individual's from the year's awards run (actors, actresses, directors, etc.) and have them sit down to discuss all things related to their field.

I watched their 'Actor Roundtable' a couple weeks back - which included Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Michael B. Jordan and Forest Whitaker - and it couldn't have been more insightful and interesting to watch these guys discuss their line of work.  From auditioning, to bad films made, to working with certain directors; it was worth an hour to watch.

Now we have the 'Directors Roundtable' which includes Paul Greengrass, Steve McQueen, Alfonso Cauron, David O. Russell, Lee Daniels and - obviously the odd man out in the group - Ben Stiller (who actually discusses how he's always wanted to be a director more so an actor and is what he wants to focus on now).

You can view the video below which is just under and hour long but, like the 'Actors' one, is definitely worth the time if you're a film fan.

First Trailer for Disney's MALEFICENT; Alice in Ozland 2: Snow White Witch

So, I don't know about you; but it feels like Disney's Maleficent has been 'in-production' for literally 5 years. I swear to God I saw that picture of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in my Freshman year of high-school.

Anyway, the trailer for that is here, and shows whatever the film is about (if you can stay awake to watch through it), which is the tale of Sleeping Beauty told through the eyes of Maleficent rather than the traditional protagonist.

This comes just hot off the "Rush to make big budget adaptions of classic fairy tale movies" that launched with Snow White and the Huntsman followed by Mirror Mirror and soon to be continued with Disney's own Cindarella.

From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

The film stars Angelina Jolie, Sharlto Copley, Peter Capaldi, Elle Fanning, and Juno Temple.

Maleficent hits theaters May 30, 2014.

'Independence Day 2' Now Set to Open July 1st, 2016

Something tells me this is further proof that Will Smith will be back.

20th Century Fox has pushed its release of Independence Day 2 back one year - from July 3rd, 2015 to July 1st, 2016 - almost exactly 20 years to the day of the original's release, July 3rd, 1996.

For a sequel that will be set 20 years after the original, this definitely makes the most sense.

The duo that brought us the first film - director/writer Roland Emmerich, co-writer Dean Devlin - have been working on the project with White House Down writer/producer James Vanderbilt.  I still have yet to see WHD so please, someone tell me if this is a good or bad thing.

It's also been reported by Emmerich himself that there are two scripts written, one with Will Smith, one without.  I'm willing to bet the one that includes him would basically push the film back a year so this release date change certainly helps that case.

Now Emmerich and co. have over 2 1/2 years (along with everything they've already done since this past summer) to bring us a worthy and successful follow-up to one of the most popular action films of the last quarter century.

Let's just hope they live up to expectations, or else they're going to piss a lot of people off.
