Hear Ed Sheeran's New Song for THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG

For those who went back to Middle Earth last Holiday Season to watch The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, you might have noticed that in a strange move for modern day movies, an actual song played over the credits that was sung for the film by Award-winning New Zealand artist Neil Finn , "Song of the Lonely Mountain", well today the featured track from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, premiered online, sung by Grammy-nominated artist and bff of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran: "I See Fire", which you can listen to below.

The haunting track will play over the film's closing credits, and as Entertainment Weekly noted, is a potential nom for The Academy Award for Best Original Song!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, continues Bilbo's epic quest in theaters and IMAX 3D on December 17.

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous forest of Mirkwood. After escaping capture by the dangerous Wood-elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all — a creature more terrifying than any other; one which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself — the Dragon Smaug.

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, with Martin Freeman in the central role of Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. The international ensemble cast is led by Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando Bloom as Legolas. The film also stars (in alphabetical order) John Bell, Manu Bennett, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Lawrence Makoare, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, and Aidan Turner.

Possible Actors Up for Sarah and John Connor in 'Terminator 5'

There's a lot going on right now on the film side of the internet; a BIG Batman/Superman movie scoop is apparently coming, along with plenty of high-profile actors/actresses being announced for new projects (oh, and Will Smith is doing a publicity stunt about cheating with his co-star for attention).

But the piece of news that I came across today that I wanted to report on is the apparent first bit of casting in regards to the new Terminator fillm (anything Terminator related I read, even though the past two films raped my childhood).

Word comes today from a website I've never heard of - so I stress this with a grain of salt - that they know who's being eyed for both the roles of Sarah and John Connor in the planned Terminator 5 for summer 2015.

Sadly, neither of those names are Linda Hamilton or Edward Furlong.

The report states that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street), and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, my Will Smith reference above) are up for the role of Sarah Connor, while Boyd Holbrook(?) (The Host) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) are being eyed for the role of John Connor.

Before I get to my thoughts on this, let me at least state what this 'solid' rumor seems to confirm:

Terminator 5 will be a franchise reboot, a la what Star Trek did back in 2009.  Honor the original, but do a whole new thing, and when you're working with time travel, anything is possible.

Now onto the supposed casting...I don't get it, at all.

Not that any of those actors/actresses mentioned above are bad choices, but I just don't understand why are they casting a Sarah and John Connor with actors who are close to the same age, it's a mother and her son.

The only way I see this working is if the plot somehow involves John going back in time to save his mom when she's the same age as him which makes no friggin sense in any way, but I guess that's the speculation you get when absolutely nothing has been let out about the plot of this movie.

Hopefully, we get some official news about this project soon enough because that July 1st, 2015 release date will be here before you know it.

Jon Favreau Directing The Jungle Book

It is a credit to his talent the career of Jon Favreau has such range. From character-actor to filmmaker responsible for Elf, ten years since its release its turned into an annual tradition on television like It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story, and Iron Man, single-handedly launching Marvel Studios as a force to be reckoned with and being the guy who backed Robert Downey Jr. when few others would.

The last couple of films haven't been so hot, and to if I'm being completely honest here I would prefer a return of his IFC series Dinner For Five, I won't balk at whatever he does next. Again the guy has range. Deadline reports he's in negotiations to direct The Jungle Book, a new update of the Rudyard Kipling novel of Mowgli, the Indian boy raised by wolves. Justin Marks will adapt the screenplay.

The Single Best Piece of Marketing for Thor: The Dark World

Thor: The Dark World dropped last weekend overseas and opens this Friday here, a model that won't stop until a Marvel Studios film bombs. That won't happen with the God of Thunder though I'm still not anticipating anything close to thunderous receipts. The trailers haven't done much for me.

Not sure if this is a credit to this TV spot or the general blandness of the marketing but this Comedy Central ad is easily the best showcase for the sequel. A send-up of the funny AT&T ads; a wise-ass talks to kindergarten-aged children. Except with Loki (Tom Hiddleston playing along like a champ).

Hugh Jackman Staying in The Wolverine Business

Suspicions arouse X-Men: Days of Future Past would be a means not only to restart or in some cases, correct mistakes of films past but serve as a graceful exit for star Hugh Jackman. Wolverine may be ageless but the Australian star is pushing 50 and the last thing everyone wants is a repeat of Roger Moore's latter tenure as James Bond.

It "helps" the last few X-Men installments have had dwindling returns stateside. But the upswing is The Wolverine, the lowest earner domestically, sits as the second bigger worldwide thanks to a strong international gross. That, along with strong early reactions to next May's Days of Future Past, is music to Fox's ears.

The studio has begun negotiations with director James Mangold to return to the fold for a third solo Wolverine feature with Jackman once again sporting the adamantium claws and rigorous exercise regime making him the object of desire for your wife and jealous for the rest of us schmucks.

While Jackman has never ceased from his loyalty to the franchise, and character, that has made him what he is today, my hope was he would follow the path of Robert Downey Jr. Lay off the solo entries (as good as last July's Japan-set sequel was; save for the third act) and stick with the group dynamic.

Not everything X-Men related has to be about Wolverine, you know.

Gerard Butler Eyeing 'Kane & Lynch', Vin Diesel Might Join Him

When it comes to video game adaptations, my knowledge pretty much stops at Mortal Kombat and that God-awful Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme (seriously, did anyone read the script before doing that movie?  Was there even a script?).  Anyway...

Word comes today that Nu Image/Millenium Films are reviving their on again, off again video game movie adaptation of Kane & Lynch, which follows Kane, a death row inmate, and Lynch, a schizophrenic killer, who team up to retrieve a stolen fortune.

Gerard Butler is said to be in-talks for the role of Kane while an offer has apparently been sent out to Vin Diesel for the role of Lynch.

Now I'm not at all familar with the game, but doesn't it seem as if the guy suffering from schizophrenia should be played by the 'actor' (Butler) and the prison inmate by the 'brawn' (Diesel) and not the other way around?

    F. Gary Gray - the man who directed Butler in 2007's fantastic Law Abiding Citizen - is aboard the project to direct.  He was actually attached to helm the film years back but obviously things didn't work out then, hopefully they do now at least.

An on-screen team up of Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel actually sounds pretty cool, unless of course Diesel feels his 'talents' are better served doing another five Fast & Furious movies (you never know).
