Movie Moan - An Evening With Robert Meyer Burnett

Hey folks, the regular edition of our show should be up by Wednesday.  To tide you over until then, we would like to present a special audio only bonus feature as part of our two disc special edition of Movie Moan this week.

We are once again humbled and honoured to be joined by DVD/Blu Ray producer & filmmaker Robert Meyer Burnett as we enjoy a laidback discussion on some of his favourite experiences working in the industry producing supplemental material for DVD projects such as 'The Lord Of The Rings: Extended Editions', 'Tron' and 'Superman Returns', as well as exploring why studios are not as invested today into producing top quality catalogue releases, the films we're still waiting to get that proper treatment, the future of home media beyond Blu Ray, and close with a sneak peak at the project he is currently working on; the upcoming Blu Ray releases of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'.

Movie Moan - Movies Are Made Of Lies

'Chronicle' is a found footage movie.  'Man On A Ledge' is in the same league as 'The Negotiator' 'The Amazing Spider-man' is the Spidey movie we've always been waiting for.  There was always more than one Jason Bourne?  Lies, LIES, LIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

On this week's episode of Movie Moan, Jamie, Kristina, Ed and Phil sort out the truth.  Here are the cliff notes:

5 mins - All four of us review 'Chronicle', a film so much better than a found footage movie.

20:30 mins - Phil tells 'Man On A Ledge' to take a friggin jump.

33:35 mins - A rather lengthy disection on the new 'The Amazing Spider-man' trailer.

55:55 mins - And a shorter one (cause it's only a teaser) on 'The Bourne Legacy' trailer.

The Day After vs Threads - A Movie Moan Special

Apologies for my voice-over at the start of this episode.  I have a cold.  Which is part of the reason that this week we bring you a special episode that we've been saving for a rainy day.

So if you can pry yourselves away from watching 'The Avengers' Superbowl spot for the 50th time, spend an hour with the Movie Moan crew of Kristina, Jamie and Phil as they join returning special guest, producer and filmmaker Robert Meyer Burnett, for a special extended 'Moan of the Week'.

Over the course of 60 mins we take you back in time to the early 1980's when the very real threat of global destruction by nuclear weapons produced two brilliant and very distinct television movies covering the subject; 1983's 'The Day After', produced by ABC and directed by Nick Meyer (yes 'Wrath of Khan' Nick Meyer), and 1984's 'Threads', produced by BBC and directed by Mick Jackson (who also made another of my favourite TV movies 'Indictment: The McMartin Trial' which we discussed here).

One of these films shows a fictional depiction of a nuclear holocaust.  The other film IS the nuclear holocaust.  As I say on the show, you will see some very disturbing and unpleasant images during this show and viewer discretion is advised.

Movie Moan - Fingers N'Strips (with Jeff Katz)

So if you had the honour of being joined by a special guest such as producer, former studio executive, comic book author Jeff Katz, can you imagine all the different questions you'd want to ask him?

Well, if you're the Movie Moan podcast crew you'd much rather talk about the pros and cons of deep fried chicken finger foods.  At the very least, we think Jeff had an experience with us that he couldn't get from any other podcast.  You'll definitely want to check out this week's show but, be warned, it'll probably make you hungry.

    Here are the cliff notes:

3:45 mins - A cavalcade of stupid British people doing stupid British things causes Phil to consider revoking his UK citizenship, and we appeal for the health of the 17 year old girl who can't stop eating chicken nuggets.  Noted nutritionist Dr. Ed Hocken joins us for this discussion.

14 mins - Jamie and Phil review 'The Grey' and try to figure out why everyone was so upset by the ending (big whopping spoiler alert).

28:15 mins - Phil gushes over Alexander 'Election' Payne's latest film 'The Descendants'.

37:55 mins - We try to feign enthusiasm for the nominees of the 84th Academy Awards but Mr Katz quickly puts us in our place and we just end up talking about how irrelevant it all is.

49:20 mins - The moan of the week - Guillermo Del Toro's 'The Devil's Backbone' (best to watch this segment rather than listen to it, unless you speak fluent Spanish).

66:10 mins - A message from our sponsor.

    Movie Moan - SLAM EVIL!

This week, the usual gang (Jamie, Kristina, Ed & Phil) are joined once again by Troy Anderson of http://andersonvision.com/, for a truly random show.  Wonky Disney animation, The Day The Clown Cried, Black Jesus, Little Shop Of Horrors, Gaston's Chest in 3D, and Billy Zane's best film performance.

It's all coming up on this week's show.  Here's the menu in a little more detail:

3:40 mins - Kristina reviews 'Young Adult'.

7 mins - Jamie reviews 'Red Tails' (not pony tails or cotton tails, no 'Red Tails' oo-oo!).

14:10 mins - Back to Kristina for a look at 'Beauty & The Beast 3D'.

18:40 mins - Talk of upcoming 3D re-released quickly tails off into a discussion of Billy Zane's best film, 'The Phantom'.

25:55 mins - In the news, George Lucas retires (or does he just want attention?).

31:15 mins - Phil gets giddy over the upcoming blu ray release of 'Little Shop Of Horrors: The Intended Cut'.

38:20 mins - 'The Moan Of The Week' - 1997's 'Wilde'.

On a side note, I didn't get chance to mention on air but I found out about the new version of 'Little Shop Of Horrors' at Vinnie Rattolle's blog right here.  This is truly one the coolest sites I've ever been to and you should check it out.
