Movie Moan - Movies Are Made Of Lies

'Chronicle' is a found footage movie.  'Man On A Ledge' is in the same league as 'The Negotiator' 'The Amazing Spider-man' is the Spidey movie we've always been waiting for.  There was always more than one Jason Bourne?  Lies, LIES, LIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

On this week's episode of Movie Moan, Jamie, Kristina, Ed and Phil sort out the truth.  Here are the cliff notes:

5 mins - All four of us review 'Chronicle', a film so much better than a found footage movie.

20:30 mins - Phil tells 'Man On A Ledge' to take a friggin jump.

33:35 mins - A rather lengthy disection on the new 'The Amazing Spider-man' trailer.

55:55 mins - And a shorter one (cause it's only a teaser) on 'The Bourne Legacy' trailer.

Actually in the other Spider-Man films Peter never felt guilty for creating any of the villains. There's an emotional connection to each one yes but he didn't create any of them, except Venom kinda. This would be the first time Peter created a villain, sort of speak, and felt guilty. I know that doesn't really make it that much different from the other films but just wanted to point that out. :)

Also I think what Universal is ATTEMPTING to do with the tag line "There was never just one..." is that Jason Bourne was the only/first ROGUE/ON THE RUN assassin at the time, not the only assassin period. Jeremy Renner's character would be the second rogue/on the run assassin. I could be wrong.

And as for fans saying that The Amazing Spider-Man could be the Spider-Man film that they've been waiting for, yes it could be. Yes Spider-Man 2 was the best one so far but us Spider-Man FANS like how they're being even MORE faithful to the essence of the character of Spider-Man. It's similar to what Christopher Nolan did with Batman in Batman Begins. Tim Burton paved the way and did a good job, but I don't think most fans consider "Batman" 89 to be the film they were waiting for. It was just simply a good film, nothing more nothing less. That's fine for some people like the general public, whom are the most important anyway when it comes to big films making money. But I don't hear anyone bitching about the Batman reboot and the X-Men prequel AFTER they came out cause they turned out great. How do we know that The Amazing Spider-Man won't turn out the same? Yes I know it was too soon for a Spider-Man reboot but it's happened so bitching about it isn't going to change anything. Now yes any fan that throws Sam Raimi under the bus does need to be bitch-slapped definitely lol. But really the only downside to this reboot is that they're doing the origin again. As a fan though it'll be great for them to not have a future supervillain, who was waiting outside for the guy stealing the money, to actually be responsible for killing Uncle Ben. But that's just fan nitpicking and yes doesn't concern or matter to the public.

    Hi Rob,

I can't speak for the rest of the crew and I really hope this film can make Spider-man cool again. My critique is of the marketing only. The new trailer just feels schizophrenic, they have a villain that they won't show properly, and a tagline which would confuse even the most hardened Marvel movie viewer.

Oh don't worry Phil I agree that the marketing shouldn't say "Untold Story" and that Sony is probably a little embarrassed by the Lizard even though I think he looks creepy. He's not the way I would want him to look but I think it'll be fine, we'll see. :)

Jamie bashes The Amazing Spider-Man again. Why am I not surprise?Even Ed and Kristina didn't care for the trailer but atleast they didn't go all apeshit about it like Jamie did. I'm not going to deny the box office will be lower than the first 3 movies but that doesn't mean it will fail. If people like it, it will do 200-250 million domestic. Maybe more. Oh and btw Jamie I know people who hated the Sam Raimi movies before the reboot was even announced. Also did you forget Rise of the Apes when all you guys including myself said it was going to bomb and look what happened. So with all due respect shut up and wait for the boxoffice results! Because you have a history of being way off on what will be a hit or not. Jamie let us not forget about Cowboys & Aliens. Sorry about that I had to get it out of my system. :)

@Rob I agree with you! People loved Batman 89 and called it the best Batman movie ever but when Batman Begins came out that became the best Batman movie. Why can't that happened with The Amazing Spider-Man? Because it's too soon? That's BS! What about Die Another Day to Casino Royale? I guess Jamie forgot to mention that one. Whoops!

If This Means War fails at the boxoffice then it will kill McG's career as a director. Because the movie is already getting bad reviews. More than Terminator 4 and Charlie's Angels. Let's see what you guys have to say about it.

Judging by the reviews it seems Ghost Rider 2 is worse than Ghost Rider 1. Good luck Phil.

I think the biggest complaint really A2THEH is that they're doing the origin again. Even though the origin is usually the best superhero story anyway, some just aren't looking forward to a basic story that was told pretty well in Spider-Man 1. But Spider-Man 3 kinda ruined it lol. So like I said before it'll be nice to have a criminal, Peter could have stopped but didn't, that doesn't become a supervillain in a sequel and really killed Uncle Ben without Peter knowing it. The thing is though is that the public doesn't care for that kind of detail from the comics. So making this reboot could have been a waste of time for Sony if it doesn't win over the public.

@Rob It seems that Jamie was complaining more than the origin story.

    02-20-2012 | Unregistered CommenterA2THEH

@A2THEH I said the BIGGEST complaint, not the only one. It's really just the marketing they're complaining about. The marketing is telling the public that they're getting a Spider-Man story that's never been told before, which for the most part isn't true. But yeah it kinda does seem like he has a huge love for Spider-Man 1 and 2 and is a little biased toward the reboot simply cause it's a reboot. (even though it does look better in every way) But not as many people, especially Americans, like or love the Sam Raimi films AS MUCH as one might think. Each one did make less domestically, which is more important to studios. Heck my sister who never really cared for the other films, and is not a Spider-Man fan or nerd, loved that trailer and thinks it looks a lot better than the other films. Also I know Jamie and Peter are not liking the internet praising the newly released clip of Peter talking to the doorman. The point the internet is making is that it doesn't come off as goofy, stupid, and over the top like Raimi's films did. Not everyone likes really goofy and cheesy movies. And the scene just had better acting. It also showed Andrew Garfield's acting as being natural and subtle, yet humorous all at the same time. He's just simply a better actor than Tobey Maguire, sorry. Now Tobey is a good actor himself but Andrew is just simply better. I don't think that by saying that it's throwing Sam Raimi's films under the bus. Raimi's first two films are good. But there is always potential to do better with this reboot. It's almost like getting a B on a test, which is good, and going 'Well a B is good enough for me so I won't strive to study harder and do better next time even though I can.' Some are satisfied enough with a B and there's nothing wrong with that. But one shouldn't be criticized just cause they want and can strive for better.

Oh and you can't use Casino Royale as an example A2THEH cause that's the first time we have how James Bond became a 00; it's his origin story, kinda.

I've learned a long time ago that most of the things that come out of Jamie's mouth is gobbledygook or just total bullshit so why get worked up over his comments. I just listen to the show for Phil and Ed's (Lou as well) thoughts on films.

Good point by a2theh as well about the success of the other "reboots" or prequels. Anything should be given a fair chance. Eviscerate it if it's bad after the release, it's pointless to bash it and look like a complete idiot (like eimaJ) in the end.

    @ Mr Holiday

I do really appreciate your comments and it is very flattering that you care about anything I have to say about anything.

However, you must understand that we were all in complete agreement about 'The Amazing Spider-man' so Jamie can't be singled out for his comments. And to be clear again, we are just critiquing the marketing of the film, not the film itself. I can only speak for myself but films like 'Rise of the Apes' and 'X-Men: First Class' taught me to never again underestimate a film just because of shitty marketing. We do want the film to be great.

Most importantly, Jamie is an integral part of Movie Moan. I have never been able to do it without him. Yes, he interupts me all the time but it's only because you can't contain enthusiasm like his. Jamie has an opinion about everything, unlike me. If I need a breather for five minutes, Jamie will pick up the slack. If there is Hobbit or Star Trek (two things I'm burned out by right now) news to discuss, someone has to do it. And Jamie always will.

If you enjoy our show, you do have him to thank for it.

And it's a rare sight to see a lively comments section for one of our shows so thank you to everyone.

We'll see you here for 'The Amazing Spider-man' review show I guess.
