Movie Moan - Phil Loses His Appetite At The Hunger Games

How's that for a punny opening line?  Take that Gene Shalit!

To match the hugeness of it's opening weekend box office, the Movie Moan crew of Jamie, Kristina and Phil bless you this week with a show just as big as we devote the entire podcast to discussing 'The Hunger Games'.

One of us loved it, one enjoyed it with reservations, and the other is Phil.  But to find out why he's going against the popular vote, you'll just have to tune in.

We also invite you to partake in the 'Queen Kristina Book Geek Drinking Game'.  The rules are very simple.  Any time during the show that Kristina says "in the book", you down a glass.  Trust us, you'll be paralytic by minute five of this week's show..........or dead.

Movie Moan - IN 3D........For A Few Seconds!

Well we had to try it once.  Keep your eyes peeled during the video version of this week's show and when it is time to engage full 3D immersiveness, you will be prompted to put on your glasses (and it's old school red and cyan 3D too).  Please note that if you are listening to the audio version only, 3D glasses are not required, especially if you are in a public place - you will look silly.

This week are are delighted and humbled to be joined by no.2 writer at CHUD, Mr. Renn Brown and we discuss...

4:05 mins - Highlights of Renn's time at this year's SXSW event and the upcoming films to keep an eye out for.

10 mins - Jamie and Phil review '21 Jump Street'.

20:20 mins - The new 'Prometheus' trailer - nuff said.

27:18 mins - The belated 'Dark Shadows' trailer.

31:15 mins - Universal shows why its at the bottom of the major American studio ladder by moving 'Oblivion' to April and making its big summer closer of 2013 - 'Jurassic Park 3D'.

    39 mins - Jamie's 'Moan of the Week' - 'Hannah & Her Sisters' (1986).

And as Renn mentioned on the show, if you want to help donate to 'Jurassic Farce' by Old Murder House Theatre then you can pledge right here.

Movie Moan - Wilford Brimley: Secret Origin

Continuing with our running theme of exposing the secrets and lies of Cinema's elder statesmen, tonight we ask such probing questions as what would happen if the old guys from 'Cocoon' found the super power bestowing spaceship from 'Chronicle', blessing us with the perfect sequel?

And to help us with the proving, we are delighted to be joined by star of 'The Boom Patrol' on Brain Dead Radio.com, Randall:

5:08 mins - Randall, Jamie and Phil give three different reviews of 'John Carter' (one loved it, one liked it, one sat for two hours arms folded).

24:42 mins - We tell Josh Trank not to direct 'Venom'.

35:34 mins - We tell Max Landis not to write 'Chronicle 2'.

43:00 mins - Our thoughts on the missed opportunity for socio-political subtext in the new 'Men In Black 3' trailer.

51:40 mins - The first picture for 'The Lone Ranger' or, to give it its more likely final title, 'Tonto Origins: How I Met The Lone Ranger'.

Movie Moan - Grandpa Joe Exposed

On this week's show we are delighted to be joined by writer and film critic Matt Patches for one of the most random and enlightening shows we've ever done:-

4:05 mins - Defending the first Mission Impossible movie, what Dr. Seuss cartoon movie will come down the pipe next, Universal's birthday, Nicktoons, and Fred.

11:10 mins - Jamie gives his thoughts on the recently updated 'crap read' (meaning it's something you read on the crapper, not a crap book) 'Tales From Development Hell: The Greatest Sci Fi Movies Never Made'.

19:55 mins - A post mortem on this year's Oscars.

29:30 mins - Our thoughts on the latest trailer for 'The Avengers'.

37:10 mins - Phil's thoughts on the trailer for 'Frankenweenie' quickly dissolve into an angry court battle between him and Jamie as the latter tries to expose Joseph Bucket (aka Grandpa Joe) for the lazy shitbag fake cripple and domestic abuser that he is in 'Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory'.

45:35 mins - The Moan of the Week - Joe Cornish's 'Attack The Block'.

Movie Moan - The Greatest Podcast Love Story Ever Told

We are joined once again by special guest Robert Meyer Burnett this week and he's only got one thing on his mind; putting the moves on Queen Kristina and leaving her other suitors, Phil and Jamie, in the dust.

Once we get Robert back on track though there is plenty to discuss.  Here's the menu for tonight:

5:12 mins - Our last chance to moan about the futility of the Academy Awards this year (mainly because 'The Artist' is not built to endure for the ages and 'Hugo' won't win anything).

17:45 mins - Phil and Jamie review 'Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance' (which has the honour of being only the fourth worst Marvel movie in the former's opinion).

34:15 mins - Jamie goes solo for a surprising review of 'This Means War' (cause apparently it's not that bad).

40:50 mins - We get Robert's take on the anticipation, the expected outcome, and the terrible marketing for 'John Carter' as we get closer to release.

56 mins - Hey 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter trailer'?  Why so serious?

And don't forget to listen to our extra feature conversation with Robert available on the post below this one.
