"The Flash" Treatment Handed In!

Marc Guggenheim, one part of the writing trio behind the upcoming Green Lantern revealed to Newsarama that their treatment for The Flash has been handed in to the studio.

"We've turned in the treatment for Flash," Guggenheim said of the movie, which will be based on the DC Comics speedster. "And we're talking about Green Lantern 2."

It was previously reported that the same writing team responsible for Green Lantern had not only been commissioned to put something together for The Flash, but also Green Lantern 2 as well. The rumor at the time was that Warner Bros was so confident in the film they were willing to move forward with scripts for an entire trilogy. Despite the rumours though, only that of Green Lantern 2 and the treatment handed in for The Flash were true.

"It would be a quality problem to have, to think about a third. But one step at a time,"

"I think where that came out of was, when Greg Berlanti originally pitched the movie to Warner Bros., he pitched three movies. So there's always been, and he's said this publicly, that there's always been enough story for a trilogy," Guggenheim said. "The scope of the character and the character's world requires that. But we're really just focusing on the treatment for Green Lantern 2.

"And I know that everyone involved in the production of the movie is just focusing on completing the first film," he added.

It sounds like WB is finally ready to take it to Marvel. They saw a weak spot with craptacular looking Thor and Captain America, and now they're ready to plan an all out comic book movie war! Slightly dramatic I know, but I think the films being developed and planned at WB/DC have a lot more potential then anything happening at Marvel right now. Except maybe the Avengers, but I doubt that will do Superman or Batman numbers come 2012.

New Photos of Captain America's Suit surface Online!

The first on set photos of Captain Americas suit have been revealed online via The Daily Mail.

Apparently it's a stuntman in the suit and not Chris Evans himself in the photos. The scene involves a motorbike chase between Steve Rogers and agents of H.Y.D.R.A. I have to say, I don't know if it's just the angle or because we're not seeing it in action, but the suit looks like shit in these photos. Also being that the film is primarily a period piece set in the world war II era the bad guys and their bikes also look god awful in comparison to what I expected to see. However Thor did look like all kinds of ass until the footage revealed showed the suits and sets in a much more flattering light, on the other hand they did still look pretty damn cheesy in action much like what I'll now be expecting from Cap.

Captain America: The First Avenger opens everywhere July 22, 2011.

New Clip "Devil"

Universal Pictures has released a new clip for the M. Night Shyamalan produced thriller Devil.

Does anyone care what M. Night does anymore, I seriously doubt it. After his last outing with the craptacular Last Airbender and the video of him shitting on reporters for questioning his current film making ability while promoting the film, I really would have thought he burned all his bridges, guess not. Even though he's only producing this, if it flops I have a feeling we won't see anything from him for quite some time if ever again.

The plot which I know you don't really care about has to do with a group of people being trapped in an elevator together with the twist being one of them is...the devil! It might actually sound somewhat interesting had Shyamalan's box office poison name not been attached to it.

New Clip "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"

20th century Fox has released a new clip for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the sequel to the 1987 Oliver Stone classic Wallstreet starring Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen.

As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader (LaBeouf) partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko (Douglas) on a two-tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader's mentor.

In the clip Douglas slips right back into the Gekko character flawlessly after 23 years and verbally bitch slaps Josh Brolin's character with witty smack talk. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps arrives in theaters on September 24th.

Kick-Ass 2 Has Been Green Lit?

According to the most honest man in Hollyweird, Mark Millar, the purposed sequel for Kick-Ass has received the green light from the studio due to an excessive amount of home video sales. The reasoning behind the green light would make perfect sense, but Millar is a notorious bullshitter when it comes to future projects so I'm taking this bit of news with a giant heaping of salt.

The first film wasn't able to find the audience the studio expected in theatres, but apparently faired much better on home video. The box office take was still $96 million world wide with a production budget of only $30 million, so the film still made it's money back and then some in box office alone. However apparently Lionsgate had much higher hopes for the film and in turn had no initial plans for a sequel, regardless of what Millar's had to say about it in the past and quite possibly even now. If an official announcement comes from Lionsgate in the next few weeks we'll know his claims were legitimate, if not he'll continue to be full of shit, no surprise there.

Millar had previously made a press release stating that Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, would begin production in 2011 for a 2012 theatrical release. Yet nothing official was ever announced by the studio.

The first Kick-Ass was made completely independently and then bought by Lionsgate for distribution, so it’s unclear to me what process a sequel would have to go through to get greenlit (Does Lionsgate have to give the all clear? Can Vaughn just pull together the money independently again?). As for Matthew Vaughn, he’ll be tied up with X-Men: First Class for the near future, but with the way that Fox is fast tracking that film for a June 2011 release, he could conceivably be ready to direct another Kick-Ass film by next year.

As much as I loved the first Kick-Ass, you can read my review HERE, I have find it hard to believe we'll actually be getting a sequel. I'd love to see it happen, but I'm not holding my breath for anything.

Details Emerge on the 2pac Biopic!

While the police have seemingly given up on solving the murder of rapper/actor/poet, Tupac Shakur, fans and certain members of the media continue to look for clues. Tupac died September 13, 1996 in Las Vegas at the age of 25 from gunshot wounds sustained six days earlier. That is pretty much the only thing everyone can agree on.

A new film being developed about the man who's had more albums released since his death (8), then when he was alive (6) will focus on his last day of life, with flashbacks to the final four years leading up to it. It will also try to shed some light as to why he was killed.

Stephen J. Rivele, one of two screenwriters hired to write the film spoke to Vulture about the direction the project would be taking:

"This is the story of an artist whose character is at odds with his medium. He was a really sensitive, very romantic, talented young poet who also could sing, dance, and act. But the realities [of the hip-hop record business] were that he had to create this persona of the gangster,"

"He was obviously very angry, and had been subjected to a great deal of violence at home, in the streets and in prison. But he was just beginning to shed that anger and look for a purer voice...He was in the process of changing himself, and entering a new phase of his life — essentially a Romantic vision — and had set up a new label, and a new production company to create it. He saw the contradiction between the musical persona of 'Thug Life,' and his essential nature as a gentle, sensitive person. And that was partly responsible for his murder: He was not a gangster, but the people around him were. They saw he was going to leave, that they were going to lose him, and so I think they decided to kill him."

The film is expected to begin production in November with Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) in the directors chair. As of yet there's no official release date, title or casting in place, but I would have to assume that Anthony Mackie who portrayed Pac in the Notorious biopic will not be the lead reprising his role, or at least I seriously hope not.

5 New Tv Spots for ben Affleck's The Town

Warner Bros. Pictures has released 5 TV Spot for Ben Affleck's upcoming crime movie "The Town" co-starring Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Pete Postlethwaite, and Chris Cooper.

This Marks the second directorial effort for Affleck, and it seems like Warner Bros is giving it some serious push with the marketing. I've heard of a few people that have already seen the film giving it enormous praise calling it the best movie this year, quite the accomplishment in a year with films such as Shutter Island and Inception.

The film follows Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) an unrepentant criminal, the de facto leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves in stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang's latest job, when they briefly took a hostage--bank manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). Though they let her go unharmed, Claire is nervously aware that the robbers know her name...and where she lives.

But she lets her guard down when she meets an unassuming and rather charming man named Doug...not realizing that he is the same man who only days earlier had terrorized her. The instant attraction between them gradually turns into a passionate romance that threatens to take them both down a dangerous, and potentially deadly, path.

The Town hits theaters September 17, look for my official review a few days prior.

Ghostrider Vs Dracula?

We've known for a while now that regardless of how terrible the first Ghost Rider was, plans were already set in place to do the sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance with Nicolas Cage back in the lead role, but absolutely no one cared.

Now comes news that the sequel no one asked for will also be shot in 3D, not post converted like Thor and Captain America. In addition to being in the third dimension Johnny Blaze will also be travelling to Romania to battle the biggest bad guy out there...Dracula. The idea sounds all kinds of retarded, but so does green-lighting a sequel so all bets are off for how cheesy this will no doubt be.

This is what Cage had to say to MTV:

"I'll be filming it in Romania, which is exciting, since that's where Dracula's castle is," Cage revealed. "The Ghost Rider has to write up to Dracula's castle."

No details have been revealed about the plot yet so we have no real idea as to why he's fighting Dracula or travelling to Romania, but who cares I doubt anyone will bother seeing it anyway. The Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor co-directed comic book feature is set to begin filming this fall in Romania, with out Eva Mendes as eye candy this time around.

The Anderson Chronicles: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

This week in the Anderson Chronicles I delve into the behind the scenes happenings on a film franchise we haven’t heard from in seventeen years, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. Although there was an animated feature released just three years ago, I’m focusing almost entirely on the live action adaptions.

The first film in the franchise was at the time about as loyal an interpretation of a comic book to film as we had really seen. It was also hugely successful at the box office as well as amongst fans. Then there were the two sequels that followed both earning substantially less than its predecessor and in turn tattering the reputation of the franchise. It wasn’t until fourteen years later that we received the animated CGI film, which was technically somewhat of a financial success, but still came extremely short of expectations.

In 2009 Viacom’s Nickelodeon acquired the global intellectual property rights to the Ninja Turtles for $60 million in partnership with sister company Paramount Pictures for the TV, film and video game franchise which the characters have spawned. Shortly afterwards they set fast-tracked plans in place to have a live action feature film out by 2012. They brought Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes on board to produce alongside original franchise producers Scott Mednick, Galen Walker, and Marina Norman. I was never overly excited about Platinum Dunes handling the project after having butchered several horror remakes and then now deciding to go mainstream, but the inclusion of the original producers has left me with a glimmer of hope this won't be complete trash.

The most recent revelation in the production was that Paramount wasn't satisfied with the draft handed in by John Fusco, who was brought on board July of last year when the project was being handled by Mirage Studios. Then Just last week writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were hired for close to $1 million to re-write the reboot, they most recently finished a draft on the Highlander reboot for Summit and shared writing credit on the first Iron Man. The studio also announced they’re apparently looking at the film as a potential "huge franchise" similar to Transformers. I’m all for a new take on the franchise, and I’m even more excited about a new live action film being made, but the inclusion of Michael Bay and the comparison to transformers has me slightly weary.

There’s been endless speculation as to how they would approach a new live action film. Before the franchise was purchased by Viacom it was rumored that Legendary Pictures (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) was developing the film with original co-creator Peter Laird, and they were going for something very similar to the original comic. In an interview with MTV Laird said the following about the project:

“The basic idea, as I understand it, is to do an all live action shoot, with Actors and stuntmen in full Turtle suits,” explained Peter Laird, co-creator of the original comic series, to MTV News. “To add expressiveness to the Turtles’ faces which would be difficult if not impossible to get with animatronics and/or puppetry, there would be ‘face replacement,’ with CGI Turtle faces superimposed on the live action performers’ heads.”

The film they were developing was said to be somewhat of an origin taken in a more realistic direction similar to Batman Begins, which successfully rebooted and re-launched that franchise form its 90’s mediocrity.  The plan seemed fine and all, but at the end of the day we’re talking about giant mutated turtles that use martial arts taught to them by an also giant mutated rat to fight crime in New York City. The tone of the original film took the source material as serious as it needed without becoming too dramatic or overly cheesy like the sequels that followed.

The new film will have to attempt recreating the same magic from the first film without just retreading everything we’ve already seen. They’ll also need to stay serious enough for the original fans, but also remain light hearted and fun enough for the new younger demographic, which the film will need to be a break out success. I’d definitely prefer to see turtles similar to Jim Henson’s original design as opposed to the CGI imposed faces on live action actors like Laird had previously alluded to. But I know that Bay and Platinum Dunes lazy style of film making will no doubt include unneeded or warranted CGI and cheap special effects as opposed to anything original or practical. The only saving grace may be the inclusion of the original producers who really know what works for the franchise already.

All in all the chance of the film having a darker and more serious subject matter or tone have gone down immensely since Nickelodeon bought out the rights. In the hands of Legendary we might have seen something a lot closer to the original comics. I think all we can expect now is a campy semi-serious update with a touch of Michael Bay ridiculousness; yes this means Ninja Turtles will more than likely include explosions and shitty dialogue for no reason at all. But there is a slim chance it’ll work for what the franchise needs. I wouldn’t mind seeing something similar to Bad Boys in tone, but with an obvious PG-13 rating and everything that makes the turtles as awesome as they are. Fingers crossed that this reboot is one more epic addition to the already packed 2012 box office and not just another remake throw away film for Hollywood.
