Supermoan: Movie Moan's Ultimate Superman Retrospective Episode 1 - 'Superman The Movie' (1978)

You can watch this week's show on Blip:

    Or on Youtube:

"I don't know Robert, you sound more like Duff Man than Superman"

This week begins the Movie Moan podcast's biggest ever project, the one it's all been leading up to.  Anyone that knows me, knows the reason I am on the internet and part of film geek culture period is because of Superman.  In television, he has appeared in more iterations than most other characters put together.  As a film character, he continues to provide one of the most fascinating production histories of all time.  As a film series, we have a collection of movies which, good or bad, each made a significant contribution to influencing the slew of comic book movies made today.  As an

Superman deserves no less than a proper dissection of every one of them.

So, as we build to the release of 'Man Of Steel' join the Movie Moan crew as we first take an exhaustive, informative, loving, and hilarious look at each of the Superman motion pictures.  Following the release of the new movie, we will then move to television, animation, and maybe a little something else too.

This particular video has been released before as a rough cut but has been pruned and cleaned up following your wonderful feedback and is ready to enjoy as the finished product.  Even if you saw it the first time, it begs to be seen again.

And if you enjoyed it, trust me, it's only going to get better as the weeks go on.  Enjoy!

Movie Moan - A Tale Of Two Trailers

I've made this week's show possibly our shortest and tightest ever so you don't have to spend much time on it and go back to staring at your 'Man Of Steel' countdown calendars. So let's get to it.

Joining us this week are the total accumulation of knowledge spanning the 28 known galaxies, Mr Justin Korthof, and his co-host on his new podcast 'Supertalk Concern' as well as one third of the group that makes comic book podcast 'The Hangout', the delightful Alison.

7:48 mins - You know what.

29:35 mins - The final trailer for 'Star Trek Into Darkness' bringing out the exact opposite reaction to Man of Drool.

39:40 mins - Yes, Electro the supervillain with a head shaped like a starfish is a black and a blue man.  Let's see where it goes.

42:25 mins - Phil's final chance before going into Marvel Studio's opening salvo of Phase Two to offer his theory on how 'The Avengers Part II' will end and Phase Three will play out.

    48:30 mins - Supermoan: Movie Moan's Ultimate Superman Retrospective begins.........Friday April 26th.

51:35 mins - Most importantly, please give what you can to help our friend Ed Douglas kick Cancer's ass right here.

Movie Moan's Summer 2013 Box Office Prediction Power Hour(s)

If you can get past the song (and it's a big 'if') then you're guaranteed to have a lot of fun with this week's three hour epic show.

It's that time of the year again where the Movie Moan crew predict the US domestic grosses for Summer 2013's blockbuster movies before we re-unite in September to see how badly we did.  Assembling for another epic battle are the usual trifecta of Phil Gee (who gets everything wrong), Jamie Williams (who gets half of everything right), and Mr Shawn Robbins of Box Office.com (who gets the other half right).

But raising the stakes this year is a fourth member of the predicting posse.  None other than writer and editor for Coming Soon.net Mr Edward Douglas.

Now the important bit - Don't forget to have a pen and paper to hand as we go through the show so you can join in and make your own predictions.  This year we'll have a 'web winner' for each prediction and an overall winner for the listener who gets the most points.  The stakes have never been higher.

All you have to do is lay out your predictions just as you see them below in the cliff notes, with the title of the film and your prediction on its US domestic gross up to our cut off date of September 1st:

    10:25 mins - Iron Man 3
21:30 mins - The Great Gatsby
27:55 mins - Star Trek Into Darkness
36:45 mins - The Hangover Part III
    45:40 mins - Fast & Furious 6
    57:20 mins - After Earth
66:50 mins - Man Of Steel
    86:10 mins - Monsters University
    96:30 mins - World War Z
107 mins - White House Down
    116 mins - Despicable Me 2
125 mins - The Lone Ranger
    132:35 mins - Pacific Rim
    141:55 mins - Red 2
    146:55 mins - The Wolverine
155:40 mins - Elysium (yes, the trailer just hit right after I finished making this video - bloody perfect timing)
    164:30 mins - Kick Ass 2

Best of luck to you all.

Movie Moan - Breaking A Real American Hero's Dick Off

It's been a while since you folks got a classic Phil Gee rant against a film but your Easter wish comes true this week as the English gentleman from England does not mince words expressing his disappointment with the second 'G.I.Joe' movie.

So join Phil, Jamie Williams and Capt. Ed Hocken for a manly episode of rage and passion as we discuss:

2:40 mins - There be treasure inside Brian Blessed's beard I tells ya.

7:45 mins - Ed and Jamie belatedly review 'Olympus Has Fallen' (it's been out for a few weeks now so you won't mind if they ruin who the surprise turncoat villain is will you?).

18:20 mins - Jamie tries to get a word in as Phil retaliates against the worst film he is likely to see this year; 'G.I.Joe: Retaliation'.

47 mins - Opinion is split on the first trailer for 'White House Down'.

52:50 mins - And split again on the finally released trailer for 'The Wolverine'.

61 mins - Phil feels old and angry and it's Jamie's fault.  Plus, the announcement of next week's epic show.

Movie Moan's First Audio Commentary - Never Say Never Again (1983)

We may have done our massive James Bond retrospective last year but there was a piece of unfinished business.  We never discussed the unofficial 'Thunderball' remake from 1983, 'Never Say Never Again', a film which really could have been something special.......if they hadn't fucked it up.

But, as an experiment, Jamie and Phil have decided to do a whole audio commentary for the movie and you know the kind of random utterances that can occur when these two dudes get together.  Harvey Fierstein, fine Atari products, horse death, the Village People, Sean Connery's Jewish stunt double, wishing the film to be over and talking about Kickstarter instead; all are covered in Movie Moan's first audio commentary.

Let us know what you think and, if you liked it, we may do more on a slow news week.  Just remember, it was our first time so go easy on us.
