Josh Hutcherson: The Almost Spider-Man

Early on we were told by sources that Josh Hutcherson was a favorite of Sony's for the role of "Spider-Man" in the upcoming reboot. Some sources were even telling us that he actually had the role. If that was the case, it is pretty obvious that The Brothers Warner "cock-blocked" him and exercised his option on "Journey To The Center Of The Earth 2". Take that Josh.

If you think about it, it sort of makes sense. Why would Warner Bros let an actor they have under contract branch off to play a top Marvel character at another studio, especially since WB is connected to DC Comics? Welcome to Hollyweird.

It's hard not to think of what could have been if Josh had been cast, that is why it was interesting to receive screencaps of what looks like his screen test from an anonymous source. Now we get to see what he would have looked like as Peter Parker. What do you think? Move over Andrew Garfield or thanks but no thanks?

IMAX & WB Reach Agreement On Hobbit, Superman, Batman & More

IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) and Warner Bros. Pictures, a unit of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:TWX), announced today that they have completed an agreement to release up to 20 Warner Bros. films in IMAX's format over the course of the next three and a half years (from 2010 through 2013). The agreement strategically aligns Warner Bros.' tent-pole business with the increasing worldwide popularity of The IMAX Experience(R) in both 2D and IMAX(R) 3D, providing the studio with an added distribution platform that consistently delivers strong box office returns. The agreement underscores the excitement around the studio's future films which are anticipated to be among the best Hollywood event titles slated for release in the coming years.

Under the agreement, Warner Bros. movies that will be released in IMAX are: Legends of the Guardian: The Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D (September 24, 2010); Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (3D) (November 19, 2010); Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (3D) (July 15, 2011); Happy Feet 2 (3D) (November 18, 2011); and The Hobbit (December 2013). Warner Bros. and IMAX also plan to release an additional 15 films over the course of 2011, 2012 and 2013, including Gravity, Dark Shadows, Fury Road, Batman 3, and Superman.

"Our track record with IMAX has been incredible, and incorporating 3D into this collaborative effort will serve as the ultimate experience for our audiences," said Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. "We are extraordinarily proud of our forthcoming slate and eager to offer these films to audiences in the most premium of movie-going experiences."

"We're thrilled to join with IMAX in bringing global audiences new and exciting experiences through the 3D IMAX format," said Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. "We have a tremendously powerful slate of quality tentpole films, and as IMAX theaters continue to expand internationally, more and more audiences will have the opportunity to experience our films using this exciting format."

"Warner Bros. is and has been an important strategic partner for IMAX. The success of our partnership to date is a result of our integrated approach to marketing and release strategies, and we believe this formula will lead to more box office success in the future," said Richard L. Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. "Our digital theatre system has accelerated the growth of our theatre network and provides us with significant flexibility in the release and programming schedule in our theatres. This important announcement provides increased visibility into our future film slate, enabling existing and potential exhibitors to better know what's 'coming soon' in their IMAX(R) theatres."

"IMAX has a deep appreciation for Warner Bros.' approach to the film business; they consistently work with the industry's most talented filmmakers, produce and release blockbuster films that captivate global audiences and make going to the movies a fun, powerful and inspiring experience," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "We are confident that continuing to team with Warner Bros. to distribute market, promote and showcase their 'all-star' titles in IMAX will delight movie-goers around the world and achieve box office and critical success that will benefit our two companies and our exhibitor partners."

Since June 2003, Warner Bros. Pictures has released 25 titles in IMAX's format, 10 of which featured IMAX 3D, including several live action pictures that were partially converted into 3D with IMAX's proprietary 2D-to-3D conversion technology. Warner Bros. films have generated approximately $565 million in box office revenues at IMAX theatres around the world. Each Hollywood title was digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience using IMAX's proprietary IMAX DMR(R) (Digital Re-Mastering) technology. Also included in the tally are the studio's four original IMAX 3D co-productions, "NASCAR 3D" (2003), "Deep Sea 3D" (2008), "Under the Sea 3D" (2009) and "Hubble 3D," in select IMAX theatres now.

"The Losers" Poster & Official Synopsis

An explosive action tale of betrayal and revenge, "The Losers" centers around the members of an elite Special Forces unit sent to the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. But the team-Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar-soon find that they have become the target of a deadly double cross, instigated from the inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max.

Making good use of the fact that they are now presumed dead, the group goes deeply undercover in a dangerous plot to clear their names and even the score with Max. They are joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda, who is more than capable of scoring a few points of her own. Working together, when they're not arguing amongst themselves, they have to stay one step ahead of the globetrotting Max-a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war for his own benefit. If they can take down Max and save the world at the same time, it'll be a win win for the team now known as The Losers.

"The Losers" stars Jeffery Dean Morgan ("Watchmen") as Clay; Zoe Saldana ("Avatar," "Star Trek") as Aisha; Chris Evans (the "Fantastic Four" films) as Jensen; Idris Elba ("Obsessed") as Roque; Columbus Short ("Quarantine") as Pooch; Oscar Jaeneda ("Che: Part Two") as Cougar; and Jason Patric (My Sister's Keeper) as Max.

Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) directed the film from a screenplay by Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt, based upon characters appearing in magazines published by DC Comics / Vertigo Comics. "The Losers" is produced by Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster, with Steve Richards, Andrew Rona, Sarah Aubrey and Stuart Besser serving as executive producers and Richard Mirisch co-producing.

The behind-the-scenes creative team was led by director of photography Scott Kevan ("Stomp the Yard"), production designer Aaron Osborne ("Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang"), editor David Checel ("Stomp the Yard"), visual effects supervisor Richard Yuricich ("Orphan"), and costume designer Magali Guidasci ("Zombieland"). The music is by John Ottman ("4: Rise of the Silver Surfer").

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Dark Castle Entertainment, a Weed Road Pictures production, "The Losers."

Opening nationwide on April 23, 2010, "The Losers" will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

'The Shadow' Script Review & Director Update

Below is an exerpt from "The Shadow" script review. Head over to IESB to find out more about the script and some news on Sam Raimi entering the picture as director.

The script was written by Siavash Farahanl, and what I had in my virtual hand was the 2nd draft dated 8/01/09. From what I can gather from some quick research, this is a debut script by Farahanl, but he did take on director duties on a project titled "Ingenue" in 1999. From page one you are thrown into a dark and gloomy version of New York City, as a girl in her twenties contemplates suicide teetering on the beams of the Brooklyn Bridge. This is the readers first look at Margo Lane. The name certainly caught my attention, a hybrid of Margot Kidder & Lois Lane I thought to myself, not realize that the character of Margo Lane made her first appearance in 1937. Before there was a Lois Lane. The young suicidal girl is hesitant and ends up loosing her balance falling fast off the bridge, only to be caught by a laughing "Shadow" who gives her a second a chance at life. "The Shadow" who knows a little too much about her sad past, propositions her with a new life which later leads to money and heart thumping adventure as an agent working under his umbrella.

Let me just say Margo Lane and The Shadow are characters you care about, Farahanl plays up the mystery of The Shadow against the vulnerability and naivety of Margo Lane, and they remained connected even though their storylines criss-cross throughout the script. Although the possible film could be looked as an ensemble piece because of the plethora of characters, these two characters are the backbone of the script. You never get sick of The Shadow's viewpoint on the world around him and his role as the ultimate anti-hero. He's menacing, he can break bones with his bare hands, and mow down an entire room of thugs with his Colt 45's. Margo Lane is that fish out of water that you grow with. She goes from a helpless lost soul to a empowered heroine because she has to. Being thrust into a word of murder and mayhem would force anybody to learn the way of the gun and you really believe in her character development.
