STAR WARS: EPISODE VII In Theaters December 2015 in 3D

Well, well, well, it appears that the May tradition of Star Wars films is about to be broken with the latest announcement that Star Wars: Episode VII will release December 18, 2015. Meaning that it will make more money than anything ever made in the history of the world, *and* in 3D.

"We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture," said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

Star Wars.com had the skinny on this, which comes just after the announcement last moth that Lawrence Kasdan will be replacing Michael Ardnt as screen-writer with the J.J. Abrams money machine as director.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J. J. Abrams (Super 8Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek)and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost ArkThe Empire Strikes BackReturn of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible – Ghost ProtocolJack RyanStar Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (TintinWar of the Worlds) serving as executive producers. John Williams is returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII.

The release also noted filming will commence in 2014 at Pinewood Studios.

Still no plot or casting confirmations; but expect to return to a galaxy far, far away December 18, 2015.
