Fox Passes on '24' Movie Script

This was a sad weekend for fans of Kiefer Sutherland and 24EW reports that 20th Century Fox recently passed on the feature-film script by Billy Ray (State of Play) which would have continued the story of everyone's favorite rouge-government agent.  But don't worry, this doesn't mean the development of a 24 film is dead.  Longtime executive producer of the series, Howard Gordon, tells EW that Tony Scott (who's said to be attached to direct the film) would be meeting with Sutherland sometime soon to find a new way to approach the story.  Gordon sounds hopeful the film we eventually get made:

“I was disapppointed [Fox] passed on the script but I’m certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point,” he said. “Anecdotally, I’ve heard from people who are really missing the show and I do think there is more life in Jack Bauer.”

Sounds like we'll be hearing more about this project in the new coming year.  With that said, Happy New Year everyone!

I don't think Tony Scott would be a good fit for the 24 movie. Antoine Fuqua would be a better choice to direct the film. Training Day, Tears Of The Sun, Shooter, and Brooklyn's Finest are good movies in my opinion. He can bring the gritty realism and action that 24 needs, and not the MTV visuals over the top action sequences and eye candy that you get with a Tony Scott movie. Maybe have Stephen Gaghan of Syriana or Jeffrey Nachmanoff of Traitor to help write the script, if FOX do decide to greenlight the movie.

Doug Liman (Bourne Identity) or Paul Greengrass (Bourne Supremacy & Bourne Ultimatum) would be good choices IMO.
