Movie Moan - The Cream In Our Coffee

Sincere apologies for being away for the last two weeks but we've been wading through a news drought, just waiting for that 'Star Trek' news.  Well we didn't get exactly what we thought we would but we'll take a trailer for a trailer over absolutely nothing.  And since it is Trek, we couldn't do this week's show without Mr. Lou Sytsma.  So join us for a very loose and free flowing (not to mention full of Christmas warmth) edition of Movie Moan:

0:30 mins - We discuss Christmas weather, popcorn seasonings and stroke each other's egos.

11:25 mins - The many questions offered up by one minute's worth of 'Star Trek Into Darkness'.

33:30 mins - 'Skyfall' has become the highest grossing film in UK cinema history, was no.1 at the US box office again this week, and is well on track to make a billion dollars.  But.......how?

50 mins - 'Tron 3'.......just for a minute, bear with us.

53 mins - Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan are writing new Star Wars movies but is it just fan pandering?

Movie Moan - Let's Do The Mega Happy Ending

Apparently the makers of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II assume its audience are too stupid and sensitive to handle a sad ending so, after much pivotal character death an head snappage, the film pulls the modern equivalent of having Wayne & Garth appear on screen and starting the ending all over again just so things can end well.  Now I wish I had been there to hold Jamie's hand as he sat through this crap.

But alas, Jamie is on his own to review the film but joins myself and writer for comingsoon.net, superherohype.com, and shocktillyoudrop.com, Mr Spencer Perry to tackle all those news stories we missed from previous weeks thanks to James Bond:

4:10 mins - Jamie reviews 'The Twilight Saga: As If We Could End The Film Like That, Sh'yeah!'

21:25 mins - We still don't have the director confirmed for 'Star Wars: Episode VII' so we'd better pick one while we have the chance.

37:45 mins - Bryan Singer is directing another 'X-Men' movie.  Did you hear?

48:10 mins - Christmas will bring us more 'Star Trek Into Darkness' footage than we know what to do with but is it a mistake that will take away from the film itself?

61:15 mins - We try and salvage some enjoyment from the trailer for 'World War Z'.

71:35 mins - Fassbender is doing 'Assassin's Creed', Hardy is doing 'Splinter Cell', and both projects will be dead in a month so we talk about them while we have the chance.

Movie Moan: Gun - Shot, Heart - Target, Skyfall - Crap?

What a difference two weeks can make.  Myself and Robert Meyer Burnett danced out of the movie theatre in London on the opening day of 'Skyfall'.  We had some issues here and there but I assumed that he loved the film as much as I do and this week's show would be 90 minutes of adoration for Sam Mendes' vision.

    Fate has other ideas.

So join me and Jamie Williams (who at least agrees with my perspective so I have some back-up) as our wonderful friends Robert Meyer Burnett and Roger Lay Jr. team up for the first time on Movie Moan to discuss why 'Skyfall' is actually a very bad example of a Bond film, where the hero accomplishes nothing, the women are treated shamefully, and the plot makes zero sense.

Don't worry though, you're still allowed to like it.

    Movie Moan's Ultimate Bond-A-Thon (1962 - 2002)

Congratulations to my brothers and sisters in the United States.  You waited the extra two weeks for the wonderful 'Skyfall' and hopefully kept yourself spoiler free in the process.  Whether you've just come out of the film or you need to get yourself in the mood before you see it, Movie Moan is here to help.

Movie Moan - I Have A Good Feeling About This

I'll confess to you folks that, while as stunned as everyone else, I wasn't jumping for joy the moment I heard that new Star Wars films were headed our way.  But stopping to think about it in preparation for this show and then talking with my special guests tonight and you can hear the change in me over the 90 mins.  Now I'm delirious about it.  Star Wars is back.  We can all be young again.

Jamie couldn't join us this week for the first time in five years (I think he's still recovering from the news) but we are delighted to be joined by semi regular and always passionate Mr Justin Korthof, and the welcome return of one of the classic Movie Moan gang from back in the day, Mr Lou Sytsma.

You don't need cliff notes for this show.  It's 90 minutes of Star Wars talk, what it means to us, what we want the films to be, when will they come out, did we ever see this coming, and how the hell did Disney buy Lucasfilm for so little, all backed up by the best music in the history of film.  Enjoy.
