Movie Moan: Run Hobbit Run
The Movie Moan crew doesn't mean to be so damn pessimistic about The Hobbit. It just feels like when one hurdle is over come, an even bigger one appears. So although Peter Jackson & Co. have their main cast locked, the guys (Phil, Ed, Queen Kristina, Lou & Jamie) are waiting for something else to fuck up the production.
Besides discussing the latest troubles for the Lord of the Rings prequel (whether or not they'll stick around in New Zealand), her Majesty gives her two-cents on Paranormal Activity 2 and the British gentleman agent does so for Red and Grindhouse on Blu-Ray. Also in the week of news, Darren Aronofsky is confirmed to direct Wolverine 2 by Hugh Jackman, Steven Spielberg picks Robopocalypse as his next feature and Disney gets their hands on The Avengers and Iron Man 3.
Capping off this week's podcast is a debate relating to the news of Mel Gibson being hired (and later fired) to cameo in The Hangover 2. Should an actor or filmmaker's personal life stop you from seeing (and enjoying) their movies?

I saw Death Proof in Cardiff on it's opening weekend and I was the only one in the cinema...
I fucking hate that film with every fiber of my being! Ghastly, mysogynistic and way too long and self-indulgent. It's the only Tarantino film I genuinely dislike. I bought Planet Terror on DVD dirt cheap in Virgin's/Zavvi's/Head's (whatever they were called at that point) closing down sale nearly two years ago, but I still haven't watched it yet. I think I should probably buy the Grindhouse boxset and watch it then, as it doesn't really feel right watching it on its own... but that would mean buying Death Proof... and maybe even sitting through it again.... ?
As for Heir Gibson not appearing in The Hangover 2? I have very mixed opinions on this. When I first heard the news that he was going to be in it, my heart sank a little bit, because in all honesty... I'd much rather see him in something better (I thought The Hangover was the most overrated film of last year). I thought "Christ, it's only a matter of time before we see him in his own reality show, if he's that willing to make fun of his recent exploits like that!" The fact of the matter is, with all he's said and done over recent years, I still like Gibson as an actor (I pre-ordered that Lethal Weapon blu-ray box set a few days ago) ; I'll still watch The Beaver even if it does go straight to DVD (or Blu-Ray in my case)....
there have been actors I've shunned though ; I haven't been able to watch any of Russell Crowe's films since A Beautiful Mind a) because I really didn't like the film and B) the fight he had with the producers of the Baftas (an episode people seem to have forgotten since "the phone incident"). Gibson seems like a deranged man who genuinely needs some help ; Crowe just strikes me as a titanic arsehole, who knows what he's doing, but repeatedly pulls his usual shit in interviews, because he can.
Aronofsky directing Wolverine 2? "This better not suck!" is all I can say.
I still think "The A Team" movie was pants! I must have some kind of grudge against Bradley Cooper or something.
Even though I think firing Mel Gibson is totally hypocritical the marketing team would've revealed his cameo in the trailer like they did Mike Tyson. I agree with Welsh The Hangover was overrated. The sequel is just a cash cow. Oh one person you guys forgot to mention was Christian Bale and his rant I totally defend him to this day. Seriously he was in a McG movie I think that's understandable.
Oh 1 direct question to Jamie you said you won't watch a Victor Salva movie and he should go to hell but what about Roman Polanski will you see his movies? At least Salva served time in jail Polanski ran like a little bitch(excuse my French) to Europe.
