    Liam Neeson (sadly) boards 'Battleship'

Every so often in Hollywood, a film comes along that  is just doomed from the get go.  Whether it be the premise, the actors involved, or just the idea that some studio exec would greenlight the disaster waiting to happen, the film eventually follows its self-fulfilling prophecy and completely bombs critically and commercially.

Low and behold, we have Universal's $200 million budgeted, Summer 2012 tentpole release of Battleship, based off the popular Milton Bradley board game to be directed by the Hancock helmed, Peter Berg.  If that previous sentence alone wasn't enough to get you to understand my sentiments, maybe this next one will.  The science fiction/action-adventure centered around a Naval fleet who must protect earth against alien invaders, will star Taylor Kitsch (TV's Friday Night Lights), Rihanna (hip-hop star making her acting debut), Alexander Skarsgaard (HBO's True Blood), Brooklyn Decker (famed Sports Illustrated swimsuit model), and Tom Arnold (yes, Tom Arnold).

With that said, you should now understand the article's title. Liam Neeson, the incredibly talented and badass actor of Darkman, Schindler's List, Batman Begins, Kinsey, and Taken, has joined this already sinking ship (no pun intended). Liam is set to play Admiral Shane, the father of Brooklyn Decker's character who...does it really matter to be honest? Hopefully he does his "thing" and gets a fat paycheck out of it, because that's the only positive he's going to get from a film like this.

    Andrew Garfield talks 'Spider-Man'

After being silent for over two months since it was announced, Andrew Garfield has finally spoken of what it's like to be the new Spider-Man.  In an interview with The Trades, promoting Never Let Me Go and The Social Network (both films I'm definitely seeing), Garfield states:

"I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?" [laughs] “Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks...” So my seven-year-old self started screaming in my soul and saying, This is what we’ve been waiting for. Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it’s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure. It’s a true f*cking honor to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it’s meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people. So yeah, I feel like I’ve been preparing for it for a while. Ever since Halloween when I was four years old and I wore my first Spider-Man costume."

It sounds like the guy is really passionate about the role.  I'm yet to see a film of his, but everything I've read says this guy is an extremely talented actor.  We'll see how he does come Summer 2012.

    An update on 'Batman 3'

Via the always reliable Batman-on-Film, it seems the hush-hush Batman 3 is still being scripted right now.  As Jett reports:

According to our old friend "A.P.," BATMAN 3 is still currently in the script stage. As of yet, no start-of-production date, etc. have been set. From what I've been able to gather, we're at the point where director Chris Nolan is giving brother Jonathan Nolan's script a polish. As far as an announcement, it'll come via the trades before the end of 2010. Since it is already September, that means sooner rather than later.

So what does this all mean?  Well basically, Chris Nolan is putting the finishing touches on the Batman 3 script so casting should begin soon if it has not started already.  Also, if an announcement is coming before the end of the year, we should know by January what the title is, who the villian will be, whose joining the cast, and when filming begins (probably around Spring of next year).

Looking forward to all this.  Now I wonder if Christian Bale will come out of the cave he's been hiding in for the past year and a half...

Gordon-Levitt & Johansson 'Loosely' Attached To Cody's Zombie Flick

I never understood the hype about Diablo Cody.  I saw Juno, and it was a cute film, but I didn't see what the big deal was about it.  Definitely wasn't Oscar worthy in my opinion.  Neither was Jennifer's Body, but we won't go there.  Anyway, seems Cody is back but producing this time around, as Pajiba reports she is adapting S.G. Browne's Breathers: A Zombie Lament, with Geoff Latulippe scripting.

The film, said to be a romantic-comedy/horror (obviously, there are zombies), revolves around a dead man named Andy who is re-animated as a middle-aged, decaying zombie who finds himself on a journey to figure out what it means to live un-dead in a society that denies rights for those of his kind.

The immensely talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt is loosely attached to play the role of Andy along with every man's favorite blonde, Scarlett Johansson, up for an unspecified role, probably a love interest.

    George Clooney heading 'Farragut North'

Hollywood "golden man" George Clooney, currently being seen in the positively reviewed, The American, is getting back into the director's chair for an adaption of the off-Broadway play, Farragut North, Vulture is reporting.  The political-drama, set to start filming early next year, is a passion project Clooney has been trying to get made for three years now and seems to have finally gotten the green light.

The film will be set weeks before the 2004 Democratic caucuses and center around a young, presidential campaign worker, Stephen Myers, and his exploits/dirty tricks to get his candidate nominated over a rival senator.

An offer is out to Chris Pine to play the role of Myers (he played the role in a L.A. stage production last year), while Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to play Myers' hard-ass boss, Paul Zara (a role orginally meant for Brad Pitt), and Paul Giamatti will play the campaign manager of the rival senator candidate.

Offers are also out to Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood for parts in the film.

Clooney is said to be taking on the minor role of the candidate Myers is working for.  The character never appears in the stage production and reportedly barely appears in the script.

Aronofsky to possibly direct 'Wolverine 2'?

Darren Aronofsky is one of the best, most imaginative and original filmmakers working today.  Every film he touches is great.  I've never seen the man make nothing short of a fantastic movie, period.  Which is why when I hear that TOLDJA! is reporting Aronofsky is one of the final two contenders to direct 'Wolverine 2', I digress.

Aronofsky is way too good of a filmmaker to be wasting his time with a sequel to what was nothing but an average comic-book movie.  The man is too good for it, way too good.  I love Hugh Jackman, and think he's a fantastic actor who puts his all into his roles, but I think it's time he puts ol' Logan to bed.  We had two great films featuring Wolverine and two bad ones.  Let's call it even and not tip the scale.  Darren, please, devote your talents and time to something better.

Stallone wants Willis for 'Expendables II' Villian

Given the success of Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, it's no surprise the actor/writer/director is eager to get going on a sequel.  While the action legend has publicly stated he has a concept in mind and wants to build upon what was established in the first film, Sly revealed this weekend what casting he wants for 'Ex2' (like that?).  Via his recently registered Twitter page, the actor wrote:

Had dinner with Bruce Willis last night. I want him in EXPENDABLES II as a super villain. What do you think?

What do I think?  I think it's a great idea.  But you what I think is an even greater idea?  Having Stallone's Barney Ross and his Expendables team up with Schwarzenegger's Trench and his Expednables to take down Willis' super villian, Church.  Schwarzenegger's team can be made up of guys like Van Damme, Norris, Seagal, and Snipes to compliment Stallone, Statham, Li, Couture, Lundgren, and Crews.  What do you think about that?

Lancelot is a "Man at Arms"

In any film I've seen involving the ancient adventures of King Arthur and Camelot - whether it be First Knight or King Arthur, I was always more interested in the character of Lancelot and wondered why he'd never been given a solo film.  Fortunately, it seems that's about to become a reality.

Heat Vision is reporting Echo Lake has purchased the medieval action script, Man at Arms, written by Jeremy Lott.  While the story is apparently being kept under wraps it is said to involve the adventures of Lancelot following the break up of Camelot.

No word yet on who wil direct but Echo Lake is said to be looking for a director who can give the film a unique visual style.  My suggestion? Nimrod Antal.  After seeing Predators, the man proved he can direct solid action sequences with a moderate budget, which this film will probably have.

As for Lancelot...Joseph Fiennes.  Yeah, think about it.
