Nick Offerman Does Your Kids' Book Reports For Them

Approaching my thirties, I haven't had to worry about Summer Book Reports for years. And with school starting up (Kids around my neck-of-the-wood start Friday!?), most kids across the nation will be cramming to finish whatever book they were assigned to read but instead opted to get wasted and watch This Is the End six times.

But fear not, Nick Offerman is to rescue with his brief, but dead-on Book Reports on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I wish I had Offerman when I was in school.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Spots Range from the Cheap to the Generic

Marvel has conquered the multiplexes ten times over. So it's time they set their sights on a new goal: your plasma screen TV. There's a new show hitting the airwaves next month on ABC. You may have heard about it. Little obscure show called Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

As the premiere date approaches, the House of Ideas/Mouse is in full "Pimp their shit" mode with these two new television spots. One with Clark Gregg talking into the camera, describing the cast (Did Marvel run out of money or something?). The other is on the more generic side. Look, it's Colson! Look, there's a superhero who isn't Iron Man or Captain America! Look, ther--you get the idea.

Trailer for Ricky Gervais' Derek

If the intention of Derek, the new comedy series from Ricky Gervais premiering September 12 on Netflix, was to not be funny, then mission accomplished. He's just never been someone I've taken to besides his stints hosting the Golden Globes.

But I realize I'm in the minority here. For the rest of you, enjoy the trailer.

Warning: These Office Auditions May Cause Head Explosions

You always read those little BS factoids on IMDB and think, "Huh, well isn’t that interesting?"

Adam Scott auditioned for Jim back when The Office was shaping up, during those dark days when the Internet in its infinite wisdom decided it was already garbage before even seeing it (How times have changed!) Huh, well isn't that interesting?

Reading that trivia is one thing. Seeing the Parks and Recreation actor perform the lines is another as you'll see in the video below. Seth Rogen as Dwight? Good Lord! Eric Stonestreet as Kevin? So, so wrong. Kathryn Hahn as Pam? More of an attitude, less dead span than I'm used to seeing. Bob Odenkirk as Michael? OK, I guess. The afore-mentioned Scott and John Cho feel the strongest impression of what could have been.

Sherlock Series 3 Teaser Trailer is Short on Details & Length

Less than 30 seconds, this teaser trailer for the third series of Sherlock gets the point across. Sherlock Holmes is back.

How did he survive that fall? How will his friends, and the world, react to his return? What else lies in store once the status quo is set back to normal? Time will tell. But you know everyone around Sherlock has changed since his "death." Watson has a 'stache!

Rashida Jones & Rob Lowe Leaving Parks and Recreation

When a comedy series has all the right people, both in front of and behind the camera, hard to find anything better. No matter how your week has been (good or bad), there will always be those set of characters with all their foibles you've come to know and love to look forward to. But the inevitable is bound to happen. Someone will move on to greener pastures and that core group will never be the same. That trend sadly is not immune to Parks and Recreation.

Reports Buzzfeed, Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe, playing the perspective roles of straight-woman Anne Perkins and the over-eager Chris Trarger, will leave the NBC comedy. The actors, whose current story arc involves the two trying to conceive a child together, will exit in this forthcoming season's thirteen episode.

It might not LITERALLY be the worst news ever. But it is pretty close.

The Flash Racing Back to Television

So, was that talk of a Flash movie for 2016 premature?

DC Entertainment may be iffy on the big screen for properties that aren't Superman or Batman. But on television, things couldn't be clearer. In the wake of Arrow and its huge success on the CW (The only DC project you can use the term "successful" to describe that didn't involve Christopher Nolan), the network is settling on the Scarlet Speedster as their next big superhero themed TV project. They are expected to discuss it at their big TCA presentation today.

Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and DC leech Geoff Johns will write the pilot, with the character possibly being introduced on the series and then spun-off. For those of you old enough to remember, this would be the Flash's second foray into television. Many of us were introduced to the character in the 1990 CBS series starring John Wesley Shipp, AKA Dawson's dad.

Comic-Con 2013: Walking Dead Season 4 Trailer

Any more disappointments on The Walking Dead and I'll be like Rick as pictured above.

Season four premieres this fall. I have little doubt we will all keep watching, for no other reason than to bitch. It's what we Internet people do. But I'm getting bored with the whole thing and this new trailer does it no favors.

Comic-Con 2013: Alex Ross-Painted Walking Dead Poster

This doesn't make up for that waste of time, piece of nothing for a finale and the general feeling the showrunners have no idea what they're doing. But this new poster for The Walking Dead, and its forthcoming fourth season, crafted by Alex Ross is pretty cool.

If you're at Comic-Con this weekend, grab yourself one. If not for you, then get it for me.

Get Ready to Bluth Yourself - Arrested Development Season 4 Promo

Two weeks away from its premiere (By "premiere," I mean all fifteen episodes uploaded on Netflix at once) is the first look at the revival season of Arrested Development.

If it looks and feels decidedly off, that may be due to the lack of signature music and Ron Howard voice-over. I am trying my best to be optimistic. The original three-year run is up with All in the Family, Seinfeld, The Andy Griffith Show and the heyday Simpsons seasons as the best in television comedy.

But going back to the well rarely works and based on this, I have yet to be proven wrong on that nagging feeling this will only disappoint. Sometimes it's best to leave a good, or this case great, thing alone.
