9/11 Times A Thousand: MAN OF STEEL's Estimated Damage Toll

While it's apparent not everyone loved Zack Snyder's Man of Steel over the weekend, one thing is for certain:

Shit got wrecked.

You can't throw a stone without hitting a whiney article about "mah supur man destroyed 2 much stuff!!" or "not MUH COMICS" in regards to the massive amount of damage dealt to Smallville and Metropolis in the films big fight-scenes. Well, thanks to Buzzfeed and Watson Technical Consulting, you can now judge for yourself whetherthat's "not so bad" of a number or "holy shit".

In a study done exclusively for BuzzFeed, scientist and longtime disaster expert Charles Watson worked with his team at Watson Technical Consulting to model and anticipate the damage done to Metropolis, both in the form of human casualties and monetary cost. They ran analyses of the World Engine ground zero in Central Manhattan and central Chicago, finding that the major damage would be a mile in diameter.

WTC estimates that, in the days after the attack, the known damage would already be stunning: 129,000 known killed, over 250,000 missing (most of whom would have also died), and nearly a million injured.

The impact, WTC writes, “seemed to be similar to an air burst from a 20kt nuclear explosion in terms of shock effects, but without the radiation or thermal effects.”

In terms of the strictly physical damage done to the city, the initial estimate is $700 billion. To put that in context, 9/11’s physical damage cost $55 billion, with a further economic impact of $123 billion.

Overall, WTC estimates that the damage would be $2 trillion.

Damn. I guess besides iHops, 7-11's, Windows Phones, and Nikkon cameras the state of Kansas should invest in Superhero Insurance.

You'll Be Getting AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 *AND* 4!

I hope Andrew Garfield didn't plan to star in much else during his glorious "teenage" years.

Sony has dropped the release dates for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 according to Jeff Sneider of The Wrap via his Twitter.

-The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set for June 10, 2016
-The Amazing Spider-Man 4 is set for May 4, 2018. (holy shit).

This was later confirmed by Jeff Blake, Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures.

Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years

UPDATE: At press time, Sony said that they expect a release date for the reboot to be May 4, 2022; but nothing has been set in stone yet.

The Wolf of Wall Street opens November 15 and you might see it at the Oscars later that year and go "I totally called it, that Leo guy is GOING places."

Trailer for 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE Is Everything You'd Expect It To Be.

The trailer for Legendary's follow-up to 2006's 300, 300: Rise of An Empire, was supposed to head to theaters  August 2 of this summer; but has since been pushed back to March 7, 2014.

Directed by Smart People's Noam Morro and produced by Zack Snyder, 300: Rise of an Empire looks like a gorgeous spectacle of action and imagery; with some females thrown into the mix to counter-act the muscle dripping wet homo-eroticism of the original.

Based on Frank Miller's latest graphic novel Xerxes and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster "300," this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield--on the sea--as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton)attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. "300: Rise of an Empire" pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemesia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy

New TV Spot for PACIFIC RIM Confirms Dubstep; Underwater Robots; Yelling

The latest TV spot for WB and Legendary's Neon Genesis Evangelion Pacific Rim was posted via the Pacific Rim Official Facebook Page, and it gives us a quick look at the hectic robot on monster action, as well as some neon color and a lot of yelling.

Guillermo Del Toro seems to know what he's doing, now the only question is: Will the audiences want it?

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanitys resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankinds last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

New International Trailer for MAN OF TAI CHI Starring Keanu Reeves. Woah.

It's been too long since Johnny Utah used martial arts to kick the shit out of dudes for our viewing pleasure and money.

Well, Universal has decided we've had enough waiting and released this new international trailer for Man of Tai Chi, and while Keanu Reeves takes a back-seat in this to play a "Mortal Kombat" version of Jigsaw from the SAW franchise, it still might be pretty cool. Reeves also makes his directorial debut with this film, so who knows, maybe we'll see more of him?

In the midst of Beijing’s urban bustle, ambitious young ‘Tiger’ Chen Lin-Hu (Tiger Chen) works as a lowly courier; but after work, he is a young martial arts star, rising through the ranks representing the Ling Kong Tai Chi tradition.

He has crafted the stealthy, peaceful movements of Tai Chi and sculpted them to suit martial arts’ competitive fighting world. Jumping to another central city of pandemonium and chaos, Donaka Mark (Keanu Reeves) is evading the police in Hong Kong while running an underground fight club where cold hard cash is made by defeating one’s opponent in a no-holds barred fight privately broadcast to wealthy patrons.

Looking for a new ‘star’, Donaka tries to lure Tiger with the promise of easy money. Entrance into this world brings out the darkest side of Chen Lin-Hu, but he needs the cash. His skill saves him in the ring but can he fight and maintain his integrity and good nature?

Kiefer Sutherland to Voice Snake in "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain"

Kiefer Sutherland, best known as Jack Baur on Fox's "24" will be the voice of Snake in "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain", as announced during today's Konami Pre-E3 Conference.

“This time, with Metal Gear Solid V, the themes are a little different from previous games in the series,” said series creator Hideo Kojima said in the pre-recorded video, “We’re taking on some very heavy subjects such as race and revenge. I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance, expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice rather than words.”

This news comes as a shock to most Metal Gear Solid fans, who have been in adament support of long-time MGS voice actor David Hayter since his role as Snake was called into question months back, with online petitions clamoring to bring Hayter back.

“Furthermore,” Kojima said, “the game takes place in 1984, when Snake is 49 years old. Therefore, we needed someone who could genuinely convey the facial and vocal qualities of a man in his late 40′s.”

Thanks to Wired for the direct quotes and screen-grab.

It's also worth noting that the credits and video refer to Kiefer as "Snake" and not as "Big Boss", the character's moniker as of the end of "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker".
MGS creator Hideo Kojima is known for his ruses and distractions, like when players believed they would play as Solid Snake is 2001's "Metal Gear Solid 2: The Sons of Liberty", and instead found themselves as Raiden.

Is this all just an elaborate trick? Only time will tell.

First Trailer for INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2 Has Your Baby

In 2011, the horror team behind Saw and Paranormal Activity brought the critically well-received and financially successful haunting film INSIDIOUS to theaters, and like most horror films, it ended on a major cliff-hanger.

Unlike most horror films, however, the sequel retains all of the cast from the first one, the director, and continues the story of the Lambert family almost immediately after the events of the first film.

The Facebook page for INSIDIOUS posted the first trailer for the James Wan directed INSIDIOUS Chapter 2 and it looks like a worthy successor that's sure to chill and thril.

The haunted Lambert family seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.

Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Barbara Hershey, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Andrew Astor, Jocelin Donahue, Danielle Bisutti, and Lindsay Seim star; the film makes it's way into theaters September 13.
