Lionsgate is hoping their big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games will snatch up the Harry Potter fans looking for a new series to follow, as well as those all-important Twilight fans who can't resist stories about tormented teenage girls caught in hopeless love triangles.
Fortunately for all of us, The Hunger Games is a pretty great book series, and even better, the story's teenage heroine is not a brainless, submissive twit (yes, Twilight, I'm looking at you).
Courtesy of Yahoo Movies, here is your first look at the motion poster for The Hunger Games:
Pretty cool, right? The Hunger Games takes place in the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem, where each year two children from each of the country's 12 districts are forced to compete in a fight to the death in a televised arena. Think of it as Survivor-meets-Gladiator...but with kids! Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: First Class) plays Katniss Everdeen, the tribute from Panem's poorest district whose actions in the arena may or may not lead to a full-scale rebellion against Panem's evil Capitol.
The Hunger Games will open in theaters on March 23, 2012.
