Is Karl Urban The New Judge Dredd?
It looks like the producers of the new Judge Dredd remake may have found their Dredd. Talk of the remake has been going around for a while now, and it even had quite the buzz at this years cannes film festival.
According to BleedingCool the number one candidate to replace Stallone is Karl Urban. Although Urban may not be a huge name right now, he can be seen reprising his role in JJ Abrams Star Trek 2 as Bones McCoy in 2012 as well as appearing along side Bruce willis in this falls RED.
One of the provisions of the contract if Urban does agree is that just like in the comics Dredd will not remove his helmet for the entire film, which will be shot in 3D, yay! This was the same reason Schwarzenegger originally turned the role down in the 90's and it ultimately went to Stallone. To add insult to injury one of the many things wrong with the previous Dredd amongst fans was the fact that his helmet was actually off for a good portion of the film.
There's certainly no guarantee Urban will accept the role, but if he does it's certainly a sign that this new Judge Dredd won't be anywhere near as terrible as the last incarnation.
