It's Official! Andrew Garfield IS Spider-Man!
Well, there's one less iconic hero to be cast (or in this case, re-cast).
Amid the ongoing months worth of rumor and speculation of candidates ranging from Jamie Bell, Josh Hutcherson (Ha! Fuck me!), Logan Lerman and others, we have a new web-slinger, ladies and germs.
Sony has officially announced Andrew Garfield has been cast as Spider-Man for the studio’s reboot. As well known by now, Marc Webb will call the shots behind the cameras and been up to his eyeballs in 3D cameras and web-fluid ever since.
So what about young Mr. Garfield soon to be donning the red-and-blue suit? Well, he's an unknown to the general public. I’ve yet to check out the Red Riding trilogy, but he was good in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (Had a brain-fart for a second there) and he'll be appearing this fall in The Social Network. He was also among the finalists reported by THR back in late May.
Everyone's immediate concern appears to be his age. He's actually older than Tobey Maguire upon his being hired by Sam Raimi for the first silver-screen Spider-Man iteration a decade ago. I know. I can't believe it's been that long. When the reboot was first announced, the studio and filmmakers made it crystal clear to everyone. Peter Parker was going back to high-school.
So wouldn't the casting of Garfield (He'll turn 27 this August) risk the character turning into Roger Moore with any sequels down-the-line? That appears that's a moot point. HitFix says the reboot now starts with Webhead as a college student. That's quite the logical move. Issue solved.
All that bullshit aside Garfield's a fine pick. Should be interesting to hear who will fill in for the other roles – especially the identity of the villain.

I don't see him as peter parker at all this looks like an awful idea
Holy sh** \S/JcDc on the hype wasn't bs'ing. He called this info before any website mentioned Garfield was even in the running for Spidey. I'll be damned.
HOLY
That dude on SHH? He's full of it.
He mentioned his name, big deal. He tries to pretend he is some big insider and is always trying to discredit Pete and Jamie.
If he knows so much tell him to open a website instead of posting all his "inside info" on comment sections and threads that disappear.
Jc may be pushy about his status as an insider, but I'm not gonna lie, this freaked me out. There is no way you could pull that name as coincidence.

I got the info via email on the article and was told DH or AICN was running it, but when I searched for the article on those sites it never "officially" made it online.
Interesting to see his name pop up now.

Either he got him cast by mentioning the name (cause nobody in 06-08 ever ran anything on Garfield for Spiderman) or there is a friggin insider on HYPE.
Either way that's crazy! WTF$#$@#
saw the news of andrew garfield being picked for new spidey. i hear he is pretty good actor. so i am glad they got a solid pick for the role. though i am surprised they went with a 27 yr old. since the first reports were to go back to highschool days. though i did just read that there is a chance the film script is changing from highschool to college to fit garfield.
Yeah...I don't think anybody is buying JCDC as an insider. Sorry.
He mentioned a dudes name 2 years ago for Spider-Man and he happened to get cast. He's not Nostradamus or anything.
However, if you feel like it, then continue to ride his train. I'll go to websites and pay attention to what writers and people in the movie industry have to say. Thanks.
Pretty obscure name to pull 2 years previous  Anyways interesting choice. I like what I've seen of him so far. Much better than Tobey for sure.
I wanted Anton Yelchin. Ah well. Still looking forward, as I'm interested in anything Spider-Man.
If you see enough of Garfields acting, he is definitely more suited for Spiderman than Yelchin, imho. People just aren't behind him because he is so unknown and they judge soley on pics for internet casting. Even though his pics scream Parker as well. Eh
That JcDc dude is definitely an insider. In his own mind. The Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man 4 fell apart at the very end of 2009. So randomly suggesting an actor back in 2008 (only because he already looked like the character) doesn't make one in the know.
Especially when it's coming from someone who also swore up and down J.J. Abrams was directing Superman: The Man of Steel. Even though he was already exclusively set up with Paramount and their golden boy right after Star Trek exploded. Still waiting to see what happened with that one.
Really? Just curious, got a link where he swore up and down JJ was directing? Would be a good read. Although it is still possible and makes since the WB talked to JJ and tried to work something out. Not taking up for him, just saying that is actually a good idea and I'm sure the WB would have tried it.
I have the private message he sent saved as a matter. The dude just wants to present himself as a know-it-all insider. You certainly seem to care a lot about this considering you brought the dude up out of thin air all of a sudden. If JcDc wants to start claiming he "called it," let him do it himself instead of hiding under alternate handles.
It's not possible whatsoever. JJ is contracted to Paramount and he is directing Star Trek. You're either JCDC, or you're sucking him off. Whichever one it is, it is pathetic.
WB did try it with Abrams, it was called 2002. Guess what, it's 2010. Christopher Nolan isn't consulting with JJ Abrams on Superman. Go take a breather.
Have them run my ip, I'm not him, but saw his postings when I searched the Spiderman topics. Just thought that was pretty crazy. Everyone considers Garfield an out of nowhere choice.
Btw check out this youtube video. He plays an american college student, screams Parker more than Tobey by a mile.

If you're not him, why are you spending so much time celebrating some comment he made two years ago? Are you his press agent? Nobody cares.
Jamie chill, I'm just a dude from New Orleans that posts on the hype and I searched "garfield" under Spidey threads upon hearing the news. Thought it was pretty crazy when I saw 2 year old posts of an obscure actor being mentioned by him. I didn't hear or know anyone that heard the name before. Not celebrating anything.
NO idea who JcDC is but he sounds like a moron
WTF!!! I thought that Josh kid got the role. This guy is going to be 27? I thought they wanted a really young actor. I've seen Doctor Parnassus he did a pretty good job. Well hopefully he'll be better than Tobey Maguire ever was as Spidey.
Jamie is full of himself as much as anyone. I actually never said J.J. was working with Nolan. I asked by PM well before the Nolan news about the J.J. possibility. I brought it up again after Nolan was announced as producer, just to see if they knew what happened. I also brought up the Paramount info IN the post, so it wasn't news to me about their deal. Websites were talking about J.J./paramount deal for a long time. I just asked for a followup. Showtime had no problem with it as we've discussed info in the past. Jamie just had an attitude as always.
Whatever, his ego is going to crash the board, I'm out.
As for the Garfield news, thanks for the props on here and the HYPE. As for how I beat all the websites on the Garfield info? Just happened to be at the right place right time. Not interested in running a website but like discussing info on MB's. Glad to see there are cool people around to balance out the arrogant jerks. :-)
