    The Wachowskis Directing Superman?

Aint-It-Cool-News big-cheese Harry Knowles has scored one Helluva rumor from a long-time source.

While conducting a television interview in Germany for his forthcoming film Ninja Assassins, director James McTeigue is said to have revealed that Warner Brothers has offered the Wachowskis the chance to direct a reboot Superman trilogy(!)

The Matrix-helming duo are said to be "currently reviewing their options as its like being asked to take the final play in a superbowl final."

This would be the perfect move for the studio to make - two years ago.

The problem is last year's Speed Racer was such a massive flop that I can't see Warner Brothers willing to hand over the Superman film-series to the Wachowskis now.

Then again, this could be one of those "So crazy, it's actually true" rumors!

But for the moment, we'll file this in the "Rumor" bin.

    Hmmm...
I would agree that the Speed Racer film was dismal, even if I understood what they tried on the film. I hardly got past the fifteen minute mark, the film was choppy and too flashy, real pop arty. Yes, I haven't been a big V For Vendetta fan either, but I could see an offer to Jim Mctigue *after* he gets done with his next pic. But I am not, nor have really ever been, "down" with all the talk of 'rebooting' Suerman. In all honesty, there's nothing to reboot. Now, I'm thinking maybe Plastic Man could come to pass...

Well, anyway, seriously...this is how I want to call it. An offer will be made. But for a price, my friend.

Matrix 4 Resurrections.. (Not a working title, I'm just sayin' that I expect Neo and the crew to be dusted off within a few years, and this could be used as a lure)
As for Supey (which had some influence on Matrix) - I say no restart, reboot or reload revolutions. I say bite the bullet, find a neat, clean sci-fi fantasy way to deal with Supey Returns errors (which were not many- it just was, I think a bit much, and Supey simply isn't the sole hero on the block anymore, nothing against Singer's film) Supey Returns was already a retcon for gosh sakes.

I also recall those ten some years of development leading up to the Singer film- where WB was trying to fix something that was never broken.

Come to think of it, I just had a bad thought. Real bad. McG is helming Terminator 4. If that does better than expected (it will do "okay"of that I'm sure) I wonder...WB could just ask.....

    no, I won't speculate. I might shudder.
