Movie Moan: The TMT Movie
With the Social Network out this week chronicling how friends turn against each other after launching a website, we figured why not plan for the TMT movie? Yes, we're anticipating a web of lies, back-stabbing, years of legal litigation and inevitable film version ahead of time.
The Movie Moan crew (Phil, Ed, Jamie and Lou who joins us near the end) give their thoughts on the afore-mentioned David Fincher-directed, Aaron Sorkin-written "Facebook movie."
And there's the week in movie-news, of course. Jared Harris is cast as Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2 (Suck it, Daniel Day Lewis and Brad Pitt!) Ridley Scott's Alien prequels hit a wall in development. Darren Aronofsky is the latest added to the list of possible Superman directors for Christopher Nolan. Robert Zemeckis forgoes that motion-capture non-sense and return to live-action features with Timeless.
All of that plus, Phil finally gets to see Back to the Future on the big screen and asks what movies the others would love to see likewise in that format, John Wayne trivia, British actors' drinking problems and why didn't Tom Hanks open that damn Fed Ex package in Cast Away.

Aronofsky should be able to do whatever he wants, after The Wrestler.
I would personally love to see 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen, but something tells me they would end up doing a 3D conversion on it (like what Terry Gilliam is apparently doing with Time Bandits).
Phil, you nearly made me choke on my can of Fosters when you called BttF "a bag o'shit".
That Moonraker/For Your Eyes Only double bill story was fuckin' rancid!
The Social Network is the only film this year (apart from Tron Legacy) that looks worth seeing in a cinema...
although, going back on my word... I might go and see Back to the Future while I still can. That Blu-Ray box set is too expensive.
I enjoyed The Social Network but I couldn't stand Jesse Eisenberg he almost ruined the movie for me. Andrew Garfield was the best actor in the movie and that gave me hope for the Spiderman reboot.
I still say Chris Columbus should direct the Superman reboot.
To be honest I think the Fed Ex box Tom Hanks didn't open in Cast Away had a box of chocolates. LOL!!!
I would love to see Clerks, Breakfast Club and Pulp Fiction on the big screen.
Another great podcast, guys. I am terribly sad and predictable so of course my choice for theatrical rerelease would be Superman: The Movie. A nice double feature of STM and Superman II would be nice. I'd probably say theatrical rather than Donner Cut simply for the sake of having a complete theatrical cut. I don't know if it would make money, unless it was some kind of 3D conversion or part of the marketing campaign for the reboot, but it would certainly make me happy!
Fun podcast guys. Saw Chud's Fathom event of "The Exorcist" last Thursday at my local theater, and really enjoyed it. I totally agree with Jaime in wanting to see "Lawrence of Arabia" in it's original 70mm print in a theater, and hope I can do it some day. Apparently they are releasing :"Back To The Future" here in the States, but only at AMC theaters, of which there are none in my home state of Iowa. :(

@Kal-El fan
I was lucky enough to see STM (my favourite film) on the big screen in London in July 2008, the very same day I saw TDK in IMAX. That was a good day.
It was actually the extended version of the film which I believe as planned for a theatrical re-release back in 2000 but it never went ahead.
Phil,
That's awesome. I know that there are screenings of it here and there from time to time. Perhaps one day I'll get to see one. STM is my favorite film as well. (a shock, I know...LOL)
