'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Cast Humorously Responds to 'Batman/Superman' Situation

In case anyone didn't know, last week Marvel Studios announced they would be releasing Captain America 3 on May 6th, 2016.

While that sounds great and all, the problem is that Warner Bros. is also set to release their still untitled Batman/Superman film that same day as well (after originally be scheduled for July 2015).

A lot's been made about the situation, with many debates raging online over which studio will blink first and movie their film (I personally think Warner Bros. will just move the release date to July 22nd, 2017 as that weekend's been pretty much their bread and butter anyway).

With all that said, the cast and crew of Captain America: The Winter Soldier was asked about what they think of the whole situation and their response was...amusing to say the least.

Universal Moves 'Everest' to September 18th, 2015

Potentially feeling confident they have an Oscar contender on their hands, Universal Pictures has moved their survival drama, Everest, from February 27, 2015 to September 18th, 2015.

Directed by Baltasar Kormakur (2 Guns, Contraband) the films centers on two separate expeditions who struggle to scale the world's tallest mountain during one of the worst snow storms ever.

The film has some big names involved, including Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, and Jake Gyllenhaal (was a first name starting with the letter J a criteria?).

The studio will also be releasing the film in 3D and IMAX 3D, but considering the type of flick this sounds like, it certainly seems warranted.

Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, EVEREST documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind.  Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.  The epic adventure stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal.  They are joined by Martin Henderson, Emily Watson, Michael Kelly and Thomas M. Fox Enlists David James Kelly to Script 'Wolverine' Sequel

With a release date of March 3rd, 2017 announced just a few days back, 20th Century Fox has now brought in little-known screenwriter David James Kelly (not to be confused with TV producer David E. Kelley) to script the sequel to last year's The Wolverine.

Looking at Kelly's filmography, he only has a short film called Straw Man back in 2010 to his credit (which he also directed and produced), but he did in fact work on the Daredevil reboot when it was being developed my David Slade in 2012.

Both franchise star Hugh Jackman and The Wolverine director James Mangold are expected to return.

I liked The Wolverine, but felt it had a lot more potential to be better than it was.  It seemed as if the studio pushed less down the creative team's throat than say X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but still felt it was a missed opportunity.

Hopefully Fox gives Mangold and Jackman (and this new screenwriter, Kelly) more creative freedom to do what they wants this time.

David Fincher Will Direct Steve Jobs Biopic On One Condition: Christian Bale Stars

So it seems all this talk going around David Fincher directing the Steve Jobs biopic for Sony, reteaming him with his The Social Network writer, Aaron Sorkin, was a bit premature.

Turns out the man has yet to sign on the dotted line, and has a major condition that must be met before he puts pen to paper:  Christian Bale must play Steve Jobs.

Reportedly, Fincher recently met with the head of Sony, Amy Pascal, and made it very clear that the only way he'll direct the film is if Bale plays Jobs.  Just him, no one else.

Not for nothing, but that's a pretty damn fine compliment for Bale considering a guy like Fincher could probably pick whomever he wants for the role but has only him in mind.

It's not known yet if Bale is interested as he's taking a break from acting right now to spend time with his family; however, the actor has a good relationship with Sony after just making American Hustle and scoring an Oscar nom for Best Actor.

All in all, I say Bale agrees to star by mid-year with production on the film starting early next year with Fincher at the helm for a prime 2016 release.

Sam Raimi To Produce Reboot of the Remake of THE GRUDGE

 

It never forgives...it never forgets....until it's rebooted.

Straight from Deadline comes word that the  2004 horror film The Grudge will be getting the "horror reboot" treatment, produced by Spider-Man 2 and Evil Dead director Sam Raimi. 

The Grudge, the Takashi Shimazu-directed 2004 film that helped establish the viability of low-cost genre films, is getting a reboot. Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe will relaunch the franchise, and they’ve setMidnight Meat Train scribe Jeff Buhlerto draft the reboot.

The Grudge was an American remake of the Japanese film, Ju-On, and went on to rake in some big change and spawn a few direct to DVD sequels.

The film tells the story of a live in nurse who goes to take care of an elderly woman in her home, only to find out the house has more than it's fair share of demons who begin to control and threten the lives of everyone inside.

The original starred Buffy's Sarah Michelle Gellar and Bill Pullman among others.  

Ryan Gosling Might Coreograph Some Dancing in Busby Berkeley Biopic

 

THR reports that America's favorite manly-man with a soft-spoken effeminate voice might portray multiple Oscar winning dance choreographer Busby Berkely in a biopic for Warner Brothers.

The studio has optioned Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeleyby Jeffrey Spivak for an adaptation to be produced by Marc Platt and Gosling. The two previously worked together on the indie crime movie Drive.

A little bit more about Berkeley:

Choreographer and film director Busby Berkeley became famous for his elaborate dance routines in Hollywood musicals like 1933’s42 Street and Gold Diggers of 1933, two of the many movies he choreographed for Warners. He was especially famous for his overhead shots in which chorus girls began shifting kaleidoscopic patterns, and he earned three Oscar nominations for best dance direction, a category that no longer exists.

Gosling has been gone from the spot-light a bit with his directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster and last appeared in Only God Forgives which was weird as shit.

It is also noted Platt has some serious pull in the musical community, producing WICKED as well as Disney's adaption of another Broadway show, Into the Woods.
His film, Legally Blonde was also adapted into a musical.  

STEP UP ALL IN Trailer Promises Shirtless Guys; Dancing

 

Long gone are the days of rising star Channing Tatum talking in a whisper to an attractive lady while learning to dance, and now the Step Up franchise is more or less focused on big-spectacle dance battles.
The new trailer for this summer's Step Up All In has enough ethnic women, shirtless men, and dancing to assure fans this is, indeed, a Step Up movie.

Despite the fact 2012's Step Up Revolution was the lowest grossing in the film franchise, it still made a staggering total profit ($140 million) off of it's meager $33 million budget, so there's still an audience for the franchise which has accumulated a total $200 million so far. 

The newest chapter in the smash hit STEP UP franchise reunites an all-star cast in glittering Las Vegas. After struggling in Hollywood for over a year, Sean's (Ryan Guzman) crew disbands and moves back to Miami without him. Refusing to give up the dream, Sean stays in LA. When he hears about an upcoming dance competition in Las Vegas that could be the opportunity of a lifetime, he teams up with dance phenoms Moose (Adam Sevani) and Andie (Briana Evigan) to assemble a new dance crew. Reuniting with STEP UP favorites including the Santiago Twins, Jenny Kido and Madd Chadd (aka Robot guy) and a few new faces, the crew must band together in the finale in order to beat the contest at its own game.

There's Gonna Be A JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Movie

 

Jon Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Never Say Never) is set to direct an adaption of he 1980s cartoon for Hasbro, who has had some pretty good luck with toys-to-films like G.I. Joe and Transformers.

Variety reports:

Project will reimagine Jem for a hyperlinked social media age, the producers say, and revolve around an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation, she and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt –- one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.

Also expect Jem and the Holograms to be hella-musical centered:

Blumhouse Prods’ Jason Blum will produce the film with Hasbro, Chu and Scooter Braun, the music talent manager who reps Justin Bieber and runs Raymond-Braun Media Group with Usher.

I trust Chu, I like his movies, and he's got a good spirit and way of making things fresh while clicking with wide demographics based on ethnicity and age. 

What's different though is Chu and crew are asking for fan-input in just about every process of the film, which is neat. 

LEGO MOVIE's Lord and Miller Might Not Be Afraid of No Ghosts

 

In a bit of news that shouldn't shock anyone, the hot commodity duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie) are supposedly in contention for Ghostbusters 3, The Wrap reports.

Hot off “The Lego Movie,” Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in early talks to direct “Ghostbusters 3” for Sony Pictures, an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap.

This comes just after yesterday's news from Deadline that the long brewing project would lose it's director, Ivan Reitman, and might even be a reboot (not that anyone cares at this point) following the tragic loss of Harold Ramis:

“There has been all kinds of stuff, unofficially written aboutGhostbusters,” Reitman told me. “I’ve been reading things online for about four years, speculation on who’s writing, what they’re writing, who’s in it, who we will use, and who’s directing. We’d decided not to comment up till now, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, and it was never clear what Bill was going to do. A lot of things happened in the last few months, the most significant of which was the passing of Harold, who was a very good friend who was extraordinarily influential in my career. We did five movies together including both Ghostbusters.”

Lord and Miller would be the perfect breath of fresh air needed to reboot Ghostbusters and make modern audiences (aside from movie journalists in their 40s) actually care to see the franchise back on screen again.

Final Trailer for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Below, you will find the final trailer Sony has released for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Has the promotion for ths film been overblown?  Yes.

Is this not the millionth damn trailer that's been released?  Yes.

Has pretty much the whole movie been given away at this point?  More than likely, yes.

But you know what?  This trailer actually got me interested to see it because, from a visual perspective, it looks absolutely - for lack of a better word - amazing.  And yeah, even the story has me slightly curious too.

We shall see, because if this thing doesn't nail it, those cries for Tobey and Sam will just get louder and louder.
