Is a 'Goonies 2' Finally Happening?

The Goonies is one of those films that no matter how many times you watch it, it never gets old.  It's a timeless classic that will continue in popularity for year and years to come.

But of course, in our current day business of filmmaking, the obvious word always come to mind:  sequel.

A Goonies 2 has been talked about for decades now.  There's been scripts written - one where the Goonies' kids took center stage, another where the originals came back for one more adventure - but even with that, nothing ever materialized.

However, it looks like something might be back on the table.

Speaking with TMZ over the weekend, the original film's director, Richard Donner, had a surprising tidbit when asked about possibly making another comic book movie (he of course directed the original Superman):

“If you call ‘Goonies’ a comic book. We’re doing a sequel.”

Way to drop a bombshell there, Dick.

I don't think there's been any inkling of movement on a Goonies sequel for a while now, so way to light the fire again.

Donner also stated (and you can watch the video below) that he hopes most of the original cast will return, including Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, and the one who's become the biggest star since, Josh Brolin.

While I can imagine the 'nostalgia' of bringing back all the original Goonies for a follow-up some 30 years later, I can't help but think that ship sailed a long time ago.  But hey, if they've come up with a great story (three decades is certainly enough time to figure it out) and have both Donner and original producer, Steven Spielberg (who I'm sure is driving the bus on this thing), back, I say, "Why not?"

We'll keep you posted on if more comes of this.

    Until then, stay tuned.

GAME OF THRONES' Kit Harrington Joins HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

Just yesterday, the Official Facebook Page of Dreamwork's How to Train Your Dragon 2 posted a photo welcoming Game of Thrones and POMPEII star Kit Harrington to the voice cast of their hotly anticipated animated sequel.

Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) joins How to Train Your Dragon 2 as the voice of Eret! Just like Jon Snow, Eret has a lot to learn about a world of dragons and ice. The self-professed greatest Trapper of Dragons is in for the adventure of a lifetime!

How to Train Your Dragon 2 stars Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Kristen Wiig, Craig Ferguson, T.J. Miller, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse and hits theaters on June 13.

The first film, which made about $494 million for Dreamworks, released in 2010 to critical acclaim sitting at a certified fresh 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and went on to spawn an animated series at Nickelodeon.

The sequel is expected to set up crucial elements for the (already in development) final part of the trilogy.

The thrilling second chapter of the epic “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy brings back the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years later. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.

Chiwetel Ejiofor Might Terrorize in BOND 24

Variety got the details on the upcoming James Bond film, including a rumored casting choice for the film's villain and some details on the classic Bond girls.

Sources tell Variety that Ejiofor is the top choice to play the villain in Sony and MGM’s next installment in the James Bond series. No offer has been made yet and scheduling would still have to be worked out but sources insist he is the front-runner for the job.

Obviously Ejiofor has the chops, fresh off his Oscar-nominated role in 12 Years a Slave and no stranger to playing a bad-guy such as his turn as "The Operative" in Joss Whedon's 2005 sci-fi adventure Serenity and his action-packed part in SALT as well as American Gangster and Four Brothers (he was a HUGE asshole in that one)

On to the Bond women, Variety notes:

The plan is start production in the summer in order to meet the pic’s release date of Nov. 6, 2015. Casting has been heating up with the studio also on the lookout for  one Scandinavian and one British woman to play the new Bond girls.

Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Wishaw are returning for the film, with John Logan (The Last Samurai, GLADIATOR, Skyfall) returning for script-duty.
While I can't stress enough how much I want Quantum to return and with a female bad-guy; it seems my dreams keep getting crushed.

    'The Expendables 3' Roll Call

Smartly realizing the huge amount of coin Captain America: The Winter Soldier is going to make this weekend, Lionsgate is taking advantage by attaching their 'roll call' for The Expendables 3 before the newest Marvel Studios film.

Though certainly not considered a 'trailer', it seems Lionsgate figured they could bring some new fans to the table by showing off a cool, action-packed preview of their August 15th release.

I have to say, the budget looks way bigger for this film compared to previous two and it looks like they actually got someone who knows how to direct an action film this time (Patrick Hughes).  However, I'm not sure how much Kelsey Grammer has done action-wise to fit in here along this Glen Powell guy who I'm pretty sure no one has ever heard of.

Watch the 'roll call' below along with the film's officialy synopsis:

Opening in theaters on August 15, the action film stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell and Kelsey Grammer.

In The Expendables 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

Johnny Knoxville and the Guy From MONK will be in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTES

With the first trailer for Michael Bay/Jonathan Liebesman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles causing ripples of butt-hurt from internet fanboys last week, now word comes from Deadline that Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa star Johnny Knoxville has joined on to provide the voice for Leonardo (the blue one), and MONK star Tony Shalhoub will be voicing Master Splinter (the rat one).

Now, Pete Ploszek played the role of Leonardo during the filming part, while Seinfeld‘s Danny Woodburn played Splinter. Insiders tell me they were always open to changing the voicing component of the Jonathan Liebesman-directed film that Paramount releases August 8, and those actors were only guaranteed to physically perform the roles in costume.

It seems pretty late in the game to me; but in "Hollywood Time" I guess it really isn't.
What do you all think? Excited for the new voices of Splinter and Leonardo?

It wasn't mentioned if Michaelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael would be getting voice changes, although I'd imagine they wouldn't since those three have more "street cred" than Leonardo's physical performer.
This also isn't the first time this has been done obviously, like with Doug Jones playing Hellboy's Abe Sapien physically while Frasier's David Hyde-Pierce provided the voice in the first film.

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O'Neil (Megan Fox) and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett) to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.

Sources Say BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is an "Utter Nightmare" To Work On

It's been all quiet at Camp Warner Brothers in regards to the hotly anticipated Untitled Batman Vs. Superman film set to release Summer 2016. However, our trusty source has provided ThinkMcFlyThink with some incredibly interesting new details.

Batman Vs. Superman was recently thrown into a bloody fan-war when it was announced that the Captain America: The Winter Soldier sequel would open against it in a first of it's kind grudge match, now word comes from ThinkMcFlyThink's trusted source inside Warner Bros' DC camp that the movie is falling apart before it's even began.

It's an utter nightmare, the team were supposed to start filming soon for the 2015 release, and it was pushed back a whole year, a whole year, because literally nothing has been done so far.

The source claims that the announcement of the film at 2013's Comic Con wasn't even planned to begin with, and the shocking surprise tookWB CEO Kevin Tsujihara by storm.

Zack walks into the office the day after we released Man of Steel and goes "ok that was good, that was good guys; but f*** it, we need Batman in that!"  and we all, Kevin included, just looked at him and we're like, Zack, look we're working hard to work from what Marvel is doing, we're trying to build our cohesive universe slowly and intimately, and Zack Snyder just looks Tsujihara dead in the eye as he's about to talk and goes "shut the f*** up"

Naturally the source said no one believed Zack until he called up Harry Lennix and paid him $1000 out of pocket to read the famous line from The Dark Knight Returns at Comic Con, taking the internet by pure fan-fare and excitement. Zack even hired ILM to make the graphic shown on display himself. Warner Bros was thought they were going to show a graphic for a natural sequel; Man of Steel 2.

The source says no pre-production has even gotten done, and after WB made some last minute (and costly) talks with Ben Affleck to lead as Batman, things are slowly getting worse.

It was announced that Chris Terrio would follow Affleck off of their Oscar win to the Batman Vs. Superman film, and our source recalls Terrio's first day at the Studio.

Chris, nice guy, love him to death, walks in and Zack or Henry aren't even there. It's a few of us, David [Goyer], and Ben, and we're just sitting there. Finally 10 minutes later Zack and Henry walk in and Zack goes "what are you all staring at? Sorry I was at the [WB Staff Gym and Fitness Center], enjoy your beer guts". Seriously you can't make this shit up.

When Terrio told Snyder about his ideas for the hastily thrown together film, featuring some war aspects between Khandaq and Biyala, Snyder commented that the script and ideas were "too s*****", and that Wonder Woman should be thrown into "shut those f****** nerds up" which was contrary to Terrio and Goyer's planned slow burn and character study, examining why the world needs Superman, and what the destruction of Metropolis meant on a character based level.

Eventually, the source said Snyder got fed up with Terrio and Goyer:

"Finally Zack just looks at him and goes 'If you two chuckle-f**** want to make the Avengers then go across the street and leave us alone, this is my Superman movie, and he's gonna fight Batman and that's all there is too it. Maybe Wonder Woman can be a businesswoman spy or something'"

That lead into the straw that broke the camel's back, after a young intern spoke up to Snyder.

"The poor kid, his name was Julian I think, poor kid looks up with this big smile on his face and goes 'Oh cool, like The Black Widow was in Iron Man?' and Zack just went dead silent, he stared at the kid for a whole 2 minutes in dead silence, no one spoke, we thought it was a joke you know; but Snyder just blinks slowly and whispers "Leave or I swear to God I will choke-slam you into next week"

The source confirmed that no one is happy with the way the film is going, and that the end result will bury the DC properties 6 feet in Hollywood dirt. Our source speculates that Kevin Tsujihara only greenlit this film because he is a huge fan of the sexualization of women Zack Snyder showcased in Sucker Punch. Against hell and high-water though, the source reluctantly said the movie will "probably" meet it's projected 2016 release.

Sheldon Turner To Rewrite Doug Liman's "Splinter Cell"

New Regency and Ubisoft have hired Sheldon Turner (via Deadline) to pen a new draft of the Doug Liman-directed Splinter Cell adaptation starring The Dark Knight Rises' Tom Hardy. Liman, Hardy and Turner previously collaborated together on Everest, which was put on hold when another film of the same name and similar story got greenlit and put into production first. It's speculated that the collaboration on Everest was so good, that Splinter Cell-starrer Tom Hardy (who has been linked to the role of Sam Fisher since 2012) recently got Doug Liman on board and the two worked together to get Turner hired.

Splinter Cell is projecting an August production start with a 2015 release date. After many failed attempts at a big screen adaptation, it seems like the video game adaptation may finally hit screens. With Ubisoft also gearing up Assassin's Creed (starring Michael Fassbender) and Watch Dogs film adaptations, one has to wonder if video game adaptations will become the next hot thing after comic book adaptations.

Mel Gibson to Star in 'Blood Father'

I really hope that someday soon enough, people give Mel Gibson a chance again.

For a while, he was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.  Then, after a sinful mistake, he's been blacklisted from the industry.  He deserves better.

Until then, he's lining up his next project, a Taken-like thriller called Blood Father.

In the film, Gibson will play a an ex-con who reunites with his 16 year-old daughter to protect her from drug dealers looking to kill her.  It will be directed by Jean-Francois Richet (Mesrine) and will start production this May in New Mexico.  It was scripted by Peter Craig (The Town).

I know these Taken inspired flicks are starting to get old (look at Kevin Costner's most recent, 3 Days to Kill for example) but I really hope a guy like Gibson can bring something new to this thing.  He's obviously an extremely talented filmmaker (five Oscars for Braveheart including Best Picture and Director will do that for you), so I can only imagine a guy like him on board will benefit the project.

    We'll see.
