A Son of Anarchy to be the Son of Odin?

Thor is expected to be one of the next big tent pole films from Marvel Studios, which has given us the highly successful Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk. Thor is a story of a young god whose arrogance costs him his godhood, and will not be returned until the he truly learns the lesson of humility. The excellent script was written by Mark Protoseverich, and the film will be directed by Kenneth Branagh.

My top choice is Alexander Skarsgard, and at one point he seemed like a sure thing, even having lunch with Thor director Kenneth Branagh. Lately, though, it seems it may not be as much of a lock as once thought. With even Skarsgard himself saying "I don't think I'll get it" Now, that could be to throw us off the trail, or not, we can't know for sure.

What we do know for sure, is this, Charlie Hunnam, one of the names that appeared on Nikki Finke's list and one of the stars of the series Sons of Anarchy has confirmed that he has screen tested. IGN caught up with him and that interview can be read here . Moviehole.net had this to add.

Though my support was and is for Skarsgard, I'd not be disappointed in the least with Hunnam in the role of the favored Odin son, the Mighty Thor.

Whoever gets the role, will be signing a multiple picture deal to include the Avengers.

Tom Cruise - Crazy Actor, Crazy Busy

Honest to God, I never jumped on the "Fuck Tom Cruise!" bandwagon most of the known-world did after Mission: Impossible III under-performed during Summer 2006 despite grossing $400 million.

The only thing that miffed me about Cruise was his going after Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants upon giving birth to her second child. When he literally has another human being ripped outta his lower region, then he can make an argument.

That asside, I had no issues with the guy and felt that people were going after him 100% because it was in fashion to do so. Wow, he jumped on a couch on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Big fucking deal.

And I knew that all of the trash-talk would disappear the moment the dude apologized, calmed down and (most importantly) headlined a good movie that made money.

And that it did after his infamous Tropic Thunder cameo and (more so) the surprise box-office success of Valkyrie last Christmas. Like or lump it, Cruise is back and attached to a number of forthcoming projects. The question is what will he choose next?

    According to Variety:

The frontrunners for his next film appear to be the Dreamworks drama "Motorcade," to be directed by Len Wiseman, followed by Spyglass remake "The Tourist" (with Charlize Theron), to be helmed by Bharat Nalluri, and Fox action comedy "Wichita" (with Cameron Diaz), which James Mangold will direct. Also still in the mix is MGM's "The Matarese Circle," which potentially matches Cruise with Denzel Washington and helmer David Cronenberg.

Interestingly Cruise has opted out of the Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman penned 28th Amendment which I personally thought was going to be his Valkyrie follow-up.

In fact, the last update I got on that one was Warner Brothers was hoping to have the film in theaters for Summer 2011. Granted, I always had that one pegged as a Fall release myself (i.e. early November-ish!) Also absent was any mention of The Hardy Men, which Cruise and Ben Stiller have been attached to for years now.

From The Blog of Dylan Dog

I don't know about you but I'm sure looking forward to Platinum Studios' "Dead Of Night". I think it is a great chance for Brandon Routh to take off that heavy red cape and replace it with Dylan Dog's jet black jacket. I'm interested in what Kevin Munroe does with the source material and how he transitions from the animated adventure "TMNT" to the "horror noir" that is the world of Dylan Dog.

I'm sure my questions will be answered sooner rather then later now that the "The Official Dead Of Night Production Blog" has started to pick up some steam. Development Executive Dan Forcey has teased us with a photo update from the set of "Dead of Night" The photo features stunt man Mike Massa, Brandon Routh's doppelganger, leaning against a VW Bug that is conveniently covered. See the above photo.

Check back with TMT for more "Dead of Night" updates and head over to the official blog of "Dead of Night" to read more of Dan Forcey's informational updates and reflections live from the set.

Statham to star in remake of 'The Mechanic'

According to Production Weekly Jason Statham has signed on to star in a remake of 70's hitman thriller 'The Mechanic'. Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) is in talks to direct.

In the 1972 Bronson played Arthur Bishop, a mob hit man who operates in a world of his own an uncompromising world where conventional rules of morality don't apply and where one wrong move could cost him his life. He's always worked alone but, as age catches up with him, Bishop takes on a competent and ruthless apprentice (Jan-Michael Vincent) and teaches him everything he knows. Together they becomean unmatchable team of globetrotting killers until the pupil's ruthlessness puts him on a collision course with his teacher.

The ortiginal is a really cool stripped down action movie typical of the 70's, with West at the helm I expect it to be amped up a bit but he is good with action, so if the script is solid I don't see a problem with this remake, however I don't think Statham has the ice cool presence of Bronson.

Russell Set To Direct Wahlberg, Bale In 'The Fighter'

"The Fighter," a movie about boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward, a former world lightweight champion, and Dicky Edlund, Ward's half-brother and a boxer of somewhat lesser stature, has gone through several phases of casting and several directors.

The one constant in the casting process has been Mark Wahlberg as Ward. Other actors, such as Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, have been eyed for Edlund, but the role has gone to Christian Bale, who may even be more bankable than Pitt or Damon at this point.

Directing the movie will be David O. Russell ("Three Kings").

First image of Russell Crowe as Robin Hood!

USA Today has the first still from Ridley Scott's forthcoming Robin Hood movie. Personally I am pleasantly surprised, Crowe looks to be in Gladiator shape and the attire looks rugged and functional. Usually Robin Hood has longer hair but in Crowe's case the choice to eschew that is probably a wise one.

'Robin Hood' is due out May 14, 2010 and you can currently see Russell Crowe in the highly rated thriller 'State of Play'.
