Jim Carrey to Headline Comedy 'Ricky Stanicky'

Jim Carrey is going back to his roots.

The once most-bankable comedic name in Hollywood is reteaming with an old friend in writer Steve Oedekerk (Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Bruce Almighty) for the Summit comedy, Ricky Stanicky.

Oedekerk will direct the film which is described as an ensemble comedy ala The Hangover about three teens who pull a prank and accidentally burn down a house in their neighborhood.  To get out of their mess, they create a fake person to take the blame: Ricky Stanicky.  Fast forward twenty years later, the trio is still using the made-up individual to get out of every uncomfortable situation in their lives.  When their girlfriends and wives demand a meeting with Stanicky, the three hire an out-of-work actor to play the part.

Carrey - obviously - will take on the role of the man hired to play Stanicky.

The still exceptionally talented comedian has been quietly putting in strong work recently with supporting turns in both The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and the upcoming Kick-Ass 2.  He is also still attached to the highly-anticipated sequel, Dumber and Dumber To, which is still awaiting the official greenlight.

Production on Stanicky is set to begin this summer so expect forthcoming news on the project as the season approaches.

Anne Hathaway Joins Christopher Nolan's Interstellar

Anne Hathaway will reteam with Christopher Nolan on his latest, the space-bound Interstellar "TOLDJA" reports. As usual, nobody knows anything besides those crucial in the "Need to know" camp. Matthew McConaughey co-stars.

The talk of late on Hathaway is the perceived hatred online. Fan of hers as yours truly is, even I tired of the fake cries during the Les Miserables acceptance speeches. Yes, she deserved the Oscar win but at the same time yes she knew she was going to win. It got old. Fast. But it's in the past. She never stopped bringing the goods onscreen.

I'd be surprised if Interstellar is the exception to that rule.

Luke Evans Keeps Doing Things for Universal; But Now As DRACULA

Luke Evans really seems to be the new Sam Worthington, except talented.
Comes out of nowhere, starts popping up in all these big action movies, and now he's reached the big leagues: The star of a Dracula movie AND the bad guy in one of those Fast and Furious things.

The Hollywood Reporter  reported earlier that Welsh actor Luke Evans (The Three Musketeers, The Raven, Fast & Furious 6) will take the lead role as Dracula in Universal's reboot of the classic movie monster in Dracula.

The script tells of a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.

Dracula is being directed by first-timer Gary Shore, and produced by Oscar-nominated Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Fright Night, Blade II) based on a script from Matt Sazama and Burk Sharples.

De Luca spoke with Collider years ago when the film was to be made with Evan's fellow Clash of the Titans star Sam Worthington:

These writers came up with the ingenious-what I think is ingenious-approach combining historical Dracula with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. So it chronicles the efforts of a young prince, Vlad of Transylvania trying to keep the Ottoman empire and the Turks of the time from using his small country as a stepping stone to invade Europe.

De Luca went on to say:

In a moment of desperation he ascends [this mysterious] mountain to see if there’s any truth to any kind of power that he could use to keep the [Turkish] army out. And he finds something that gets him to where we have come to know him as Dracula and uses that power source to kind of fight the Turks after he’s changed.

Dracula is aimed to start shooting later this year.

First Look at 300: Rise of an Empire

The green-screen, muscles and loin-cloths are back. But where is the grease to shine up those pecks? Perhaps downplaying the homoeroticism lest we forget the countless jokes back in 2007. 300: Rise of an Empire comes six years after its "groundbreaking" predecessor. But after all the copycats, is there room for a 300 follow-up?

*Sin City did it first. But since 300 made more money and had its moment in 2007's pop culture ("This. Is. SPARTA!"), it gets the credit.
