Movie Moan - Not White Enough For Superman

Don't ask or judge. Just listen to Queen Kristina's reasoning behind why Joe Manganiello won't be Superman, and you'll see what she's talking about.

It's "trailer bitching fest" on this week's Movie Moan as Phil, her Majesty, Ed, Lou & Jamie discuss the last one for Tron: Legacy (Ahhhh, CG Jeff Bridges!) and the preview-to-a-preview Green Lantern teaser. Also on docket are discussions about Christopher Nolan searching for The Dark Knight Rises female leads, the Wolverine sequel being called The Wolverine and Jon Favreau directing The Magic Kingdom.

Plus, the latest thoughts on The Walking Dead, Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows – Part II having its ending reshot, Battle Royale going 3D and Leavesden Studios becoming a Warner Brothers attraction instead of being used to say shoot movies.

Movie Moan: Kids Don't Watch Norma Rae!

Doesn't matter how many Oscars she's won (two), Sally Field will forever be known as Aunt May by millions of young viewers once the Spider-Man reboot is released. That doesn't mean those kids shouldn't check out Places in the Heart or Norma Rae, when they get older.

This week's Movie Moan podcast sees the guys (Phil, Ed, Lou & Jamie) breeze through the movie-news. The Avengers may be in trouble if recent reports are true of Marvel being penny-pinchers with the budget. Universal sets a May 17, 2013 release on The Dark Tower and Lou, being the aficionado around here, gives his thoughts. The guys react to the first images from Steven Spielberg's Tintin and the fact that the next James Bond movie may be ready by November 2012.

All of that, plus Phil discusses Due Date, Lou chats up the excellent Walking Dead pilot and Jamie's problem with the Danish.

Movie Moan: Don't Tell Me Who To Loooove!

Unfortunately, Jamie assumed Queen Kristina loved James McAvoy. He was wrong – dead wrong! Hence the title for this week's podcast.

That hiccup aside, the Movie Moan crew (Phil, Ed, Queen Kristina, Lou & Jamie) go for their shortest edition yet, and fail miserably. The Hobbit will stay in New Zealand after all (translation: money, and bad press, talks), the title for Batman 3 is revealed to be The Dark Knight Rises (Hey, at least it isn't Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), we get our first look at Chris Evans' Captain America and ask who will be the Star Trek 2 villain.

All of that, plus, There Will Be Blood versus No Country For Old Men, expired Dr. Peppers, pronouncing Pete Postlethwaite and the size of Superman's package.

    Movie Moan: Run Hobbit Run

The Movie Moan crew doesn't mean to be so damn pessimistic about The Hobbit. It just feels like when one hurdle is over come, an even bigger one appears. So although Peter Jackson & Co. have their main cast locked, the guys (Phil, Ed, Queen Kristina, Lou & Jamie) are waiting for something else to fuck up the production.

Besides discussing the latest troubles for the Lord of the Rings prequel (whether or not they'll stick around in New Zealand), her Majesty gives her two-cents on Paranormal Activity 2 and the British gentleman agent does so for Red and Grindhouse on Blu-Ray. Also in the week of news, Darren Aronofsky is confirmed to direct Wolverine 2 by Hugh Jackman, Steven Spielberg picks Robopocalypse as his next feature and Disney gets their hands on The Avengers and Iron Man 3.

Capping off this week's podcast is a debate relating to the news of Mel Gibson being hired (and later fired) to cameo in The Hangover 2. Should an actor or filmmaker's personal life stop you from seeing (and enjoying) their movies?

Movie Moan: Never Say Bieber Again

The Movie Moan team (Phil, Queen Kristina, Lou & Jamie) get so off-topic that even Justin Bieber and his alleged punching a fan is discussed.

Besides that, the guys talk about the week in movie-news. The Hobbit is shockingly greenlit, although nobody is buying its proposed February 2011 start and not enthused about Peter Jackson directing. Tom Hardy is the first new addition to Batman 3. Rhys Ifans has been confirmed to play the villain in the Spider-Man reboot, and the baddie in question is the Lizard. Will this be a live-action version of the '94 animated series? James Cameron has proven naysayers wrong so many times, why not direct the remake to one of the biggest flops of all-time Cleopatra (and in 3D!)

All of that, plus why Phil does watch TV, Mr. Plinkett, what Dr. Claw really looked like (read: not like Rupert Everett) and why Darth Vader was so damn nice to Boba Fett.
