Mr. Dinicola, thank you for posting this video. I'm quite pessimistic about this movie from the start. I don't expect from this much beyond explosions, unconvincing characterization and more of explosions and destruction...
As for the trailer and introduction of Wayne into this continuity... So the direct reason for Bruce to challenge Superman is because he has destroyed Wayne's property, isn't? That just goes against altruistic motivation of Batman as we have known it for so long time (At least they have put a little girl into his arms, now it doesn't look so egoistic)... Gal Godot looks good, but I have no idea how her suit fits into the modern, high-tech reality in which this movie takes place... Lex Luthor looks here like a looney kid, I don't know what could be the reason (other than abduction of Martha Kent or Lois Lane) for Superman to kneel before a villain like that... From the trailer alone one can deduce that there will be a lot of action and destruction in the final movie and the basic rule for making a sequel is to make it "bigger and louder", so that's what Snyder will deliver. Now, how many complaints there have been made about "Man of Steel" being a continous, tiresome streak of destruction, especially in the final hour? It's sure that here, you will have even more of that, which I don't think many people will appreciate (but they'll surely run to see it on the opening weekend), so there comes the basic problem of this movie: how to expand on character arcs presented in the first movie, sensibly introduce at least four (five including Aquaman) new characters into this universe and combine that with an obligation to make the spectacle even bigger than what people have seen in "Man of Steel"? Is it possible to make a good 2-2,5 hr movie out of that? I don't see it. It looks that it'll just be, for the most part, a series of battles between Superman and Batman, cut by a realization that Luthor is "the real enemy" and ended by a public rehabilitation ("We were wrong about you") of Superman. Of course, in the final frames, they'll introduce the villain of the next picture...
I'm rather pessimistic about where all this DC universe is going, I honestly miss Nolan now. There's not much of a substance to all of this. Characters end up here just as an excuse for a cgi-feast of mayhem. And it's weird really cause what made Nolan's trilogy such a hit was a combination of dense plot and spectacle shown in "realistic, old-fashioned way".
Mr. Dinicola, If you could just add a new working link to the "Supermoan Episode 8 - roundtable discussion about Man of Steel" it'll be much appreciated. Thank you very much for work you guys are doing on the site and it's always a pleasure to listen to the podcast.
First off, about the 'Supermoan Episode 8', I will have to contact one of the site's owners & operators, Pete. We'll probably just have to re-upload the original podcast. I'll be sure to comment back here on that.
As for your comments about the trailer - thank you for your opinion, by the way - as I stated in the video, I feel it comes down to the script that's written. For 'Man of Steel', the sole, credited writer on that was David Goyer. Goyer is one of those guys that when mixed with someone else (i.e. Christoper Nolan, Jonathan Nolan), he can contribute to a great film. But when saddled with carrying the load all by himself, he just isn't up to par, which to me explains a lot of the problems that 'Man of Steel' had in terms of pacing and excessive action. I'm not saying Goyer is only to blame - I think Snyder contributed to that as well as all involved in the film - but Goyer certainly had a major part.
With 'Batman v Superman', we have Chris Terrio as the credited writer instead, who is far, far more talented than Goyer in terms of executing a well-balanced, well-developed script (an Oscar proves that). While you might say that doesn't mean the man can write a comic book movie, remember that he rewrote from Goyer's original script. The superhero beats were already laid out, he just needed to put it all together in a more suitable way.
Hopefully that helps and thank you again for your comment.
Thank you very much for the response. Sure, "it comes down to the script". I have doubts, but sincerely hope that they will give the fans a few nice portraits of these fantastic characters, an interesting plot and engaging action to make this movie fly high. Hopefully "Batman v Superman" will turn out to be a memorable movie.
Just following up on the 'Supermoan' show, it looks as if that entire YouTube channel was taken down at the end of 2013. There is hope though. Phil Gee is re-doing all the Superman shows in HD and hopes to have them up in the next few months so be on the lookout.
