First Look At Metallo

Fellow TMT writer Sean Gerski had previously reported on Brian Austin Green being cast as Smallville villain Metallo, and now two months later, comes this still of the Kryptonite fueled cyborg within the pages of the latest issue of TV Guide.

The September 25th season premiere will start a two-episode arc featuring the character of John Corben, a new Daily Planet reporter. Corben suffers an accident and finds himself mysteriously outfitted with a kryptonite heart.

In the TV Guide interview Smallville executive producer Kelly Souders refused to reveal the identity of Metallo’s benefactor, but stated that this will be “a rough version of Metallo, a first attempt at the technology, and eventually he’ll get sleeker.”

‘Eventually‘? Sounds to me like Metallo might last longer than some two episode story arc.

Well of course—it’s Smallville,” she says with a laugh. “We’re actually throwing some ideas around right now in the hopes that we might be able to bring him back for another episode.”

Smallville Suit Revealed

“No tights, no flights” has been Smallville’s mantra since day one, but all that may change as the series enters it’s 9th season. Expect ‘the suit’ to have a Smallville take on it, of course.

The rumors started swirling months ago, hitting a climax during Comic Con, about a costume of some kind making it’s way onto the CW hit show. The alleged get-up was described as being a cape less two piece blue leather suit with red trim.

Next came the rumors of a dark colored costume featuring a black trench coat. This description would seem to match the set of spy pictures that can be seen over at Comic Book Movie.

Well, what do you think? Will Smallville's Clark finally suit up this season?

'Brewster's Millions' Reboot

As the days go by I find myself lost in this abyss that has become unoriginality. I continue to march single file into the theaters with my moist buttered popcorn barrel in one hand and my keg of diet soda in the other. I still remain fixated on the blinking screen even though that feeling of Deja Vu is pounding at the backside of my retinas. The sticky substance on the bottom of your New Balance kicks is not imitation popcorn butter, it is what is left of our brains from the effects of unoriginality. As we continue to subject ourselves to the mediocrity of unoriginality that is spooled in front of our waiting pupils we only make it worse.

Unfortunately "Hollyweird" has caught on, further evidence lies in The Trades where it was announced that a "Brewster's Millions" relaunch is being written. When George Barr McCutcheon wrote the novel in 1902 it was pretty darn original. McCutcheon's novel became a play in 1906 followed by seven versions of the story slapped together and thrown up on the big screen. The 1985 version is the one we are most familiar with. The comedy features a hilarious Richard Pryor mixed with a big taste of John Candy.

Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan will be finger smacking the keyboards on the newest version of a man who stands to inherit $7 Million dollars if he can spend $1 Million dollars in a period of one year. If this latest case of unoriginality survives the long road to the big screen, I'm sure it will make some money. I'm also sure it won't be long until we receive reports of a "The Great Outdoors" remake with Kevin James attached to play Chet Ripley and Will Ferrell in talks to play Roman Craig. What about a remake of "The Toy" with John Goodman as U.S. Bates? If they make it, we will come.

The Curious Case of Professor Moriarty

The fact that the source of this is the British tabloids (in this case, The Mirror) just has to make it true. I mean it's not like they've posted any nasty 100% Grade-A bullshit stories in the past, right? If they're to be believed, Brad Pitt has joined the cast of Sherlock Homes in a series of reshoots going on this week.

Tyler Durden himself would play the role of Professor Moriarty. Various reports have suggested that the film's main villain is Lord Blackwood portrayed by Mark Strong with Holmes' arch-nemesis more of a puppet-master controlling things behind the shadows. The idea, of course, would be for this to lead into a possible sequel.

We'll see what becomes of this rumor. I could see Pitt doing something like this if it's in fact a cameo as previously suggested. But said report sounds like much of the film is being re-tooled to include Moriarty in a larger role than originally intended.

Update: MTV Movies Blog got an official denial from Warner Brothers on the matter - some of it, at least. Brad Pitt is not involved in the production. But reshoots are taking place.

Sony Planning Long-Term for Spider-Man Franchise

You gotta give credit to Sony for thinking ahead on this one.

Spider-Man 4 won't start filming until the early months of next year, but the studio is already looking into the future of the franchise. Variety reports that James Vanderbilt (screenwriter behind the insanely-underrated Zodiac) has been tapped to write the fifth and sixth installments of Webhead's cinematic exploits. If you'll remember, he was originally hired to pen Spider-Man 4 back in October 2007 (mere weeks before the WGA Strike began) and his work was thrown out in favor of the Sam Raimi-approved David Lindsay-Abaire (who himself is subsequently off the film) and now Gary Ross.

Of course, the fact that Sony has opted to go back to the guy after Raimi vetoed his draft speaks for itself. Raimi is finished with your friendly neighbor Spider-Man after the forthcoming installment - which I'm still in the "I'll believe it when I see it...or photos from the set" stage. Good ol Sam has Warcraft in his sights after swinging through Manhattan one last time.

What's more interesting (read: lazy) is the apparent plan to turn Spider-Man 5 and 6 into reboots in case Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst decide to call it a day too. Sorry, but it's a tad soon for a franchise that's relatively still-fresh in people's minds to be throwing around reboots, requels, re-imaginings, etc.

Movie Moan - One More Week Until Avatar Day

That's right. We refuse to stop bitching about "Avatar Day," folks. Of course, the fact that none of us will be able to see it could be the reason.

That aside, the guys at Movie Moan (Phil, Ed & Jamie) are here with you once again to bullshit about the week of film-news along with their pal Lou joining them for another edition.

The death of John Hughes (and memories from his work over the years), Bryan Singer's decision to direct a Battlestar Galactica film, the Wolverine sequel actually getting a good writer in the form of Chris McQuarrie and Steven Spielberg possibly producing Halo are among the topics up for discussion.

Phil and Jamie give their thoughts on G.I. Joe, Ed reviews The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard and nobody give their full thoughts on District 9. Ed and Jamie loved it, but those damn British film-distributors have blocked Phil from seeing it for another two weeks. So we won't go into a full discussion on the Neill Blomkamp-directed/Peter Jackson-produced science-fiction epic until then.

"When in Rome" Trailer

Well this is a disappointing one, I mean granted it is directed by Mark Steven Johnson (MSJ) who's last outing was the lamentable "Ghost Rider" but I'd hoped with the charismatic presence of Kristen Bell and the likability of Josh Duhamel this rom com may be a shot at redemption.....no such luck from what this trailer shows.

The trailer is just totally hollow, there is no spark, nothing approaching funny and not a hint of anything romantic, heck it even runs a minute longer than most trailers so they can shill you the soundtrack at the end, plus MSJ even manages to shoehorn in more of his trademark atrocious CGI. I like both the leads and they deserve better than this

"When In Rome" opens January 29, 2010 and you can check the trailer out below.
