New "Surrogates" Trailer

This is a much superior trailer to the first, giving a greater sense of the scale of the movie and the action.

It seems like the drama aspects and effects will deliver an at least solid sci fi thriller, Bruce Willis always nails the everyman hero cop like no one else and the production design seems up to par with i Robot.

"Surrogates" opens on September 25th and you can check the trailer out below.

Hey Jive Turkeys, Check Out The Trailer To Black Dynamite!

Sharing the same sensibilities of The Zucker Brothers’ classics Airplane! and Top Secret!,the 1970s set blaxploitation parody tells the story one bad mother f*cker named Black Dynamite.

The mob known as ‘The Man’ killed his brother, pumped heroin into local orphanages, and flooded the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor. Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight The Man all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.

Black Dynamiteis directed by Scott Sanders who co-wrote with Byron Minns and Michael Jai White (1997’s Spawn), who stars in the titular role. This SuperFly/Shaftspoof looks hilarious. Check out RED BAND TRAILER below:

"Takers" Trailer

My TMT colleague Pete dropped the hilariously bad poster for this movie last night, and today I hit you with the equally laugh out loud bad trailer.

It comes off like an experiment in "what if Heat was made by MTV and had a horrible cast and dialog."

Power Ranger Joins UFC

We’ve heard of MMA fighters stepping out of the cage and in front of the cameras before with The Expendables’ Randy Couture, and most recently Quinton 'Rampage' Johnson joining The A-Team, but it’s almost unheard of for an actor to compete in the UFC. Especially if that actor was a Power Ranger.

Actor/martial artist Jason Frank, who is better known as Tommy (The Green Ranger) in the 90’s kid show phenomena Mighty Morhin’ Power Rangers has signed on with Suckerpunch Entertainment and is currently training with UFC light heavyweight Melvin Guillard.

The 35 year old Frank, who has 23 years of martial arts experience under his belt, was originally suppose to make his fighting debut in 2007 but opted to get more Greco roman wrestling training.

“I have my blue belt in BJJ from Gracie Baja now, but we needed to have that ground game integrated into Tose Kune Do. There was a blank there. So we added wrestling, BJJ, etc. to it. Melvin Guillard has really helped add the wrestling. I needed to get with someone who could put it all together for me.”

He went on to reveal his reasons for getting into the MMA circuit.

“I really wanted to have your guys support as far as my fights coming up … But that was the plan, to get back into the light that way, instead of being an actor. Now when you get back into that light acting starts happening again. You get back into that light, ‘Oh, we saw Jason on TV. Oh, we’re going to get him for a movie.’ ‘Cause all these UFC guys are doing movies now… and they’re horrible movies. They don’t know how to act.” Those sound like fighting words to me.

“I’m not looking for any titles specifically. Ultimately, I want to give my fans something to watch and be proud of. Please support my fights, and I hope I put on a good show. It won’t be any putties or monsters at the end of my fists and feet. It’s going to be for real this time.”

Aside from his fighting and acting endeavors Jason Frank is the founder of the “Jesus Didn’t Tap” clothing line, founder of Toso Kune Do Karate, a member of the World Karate Union Hall of Fame, and owner of the Rising Sun Karate Academies.

He has nothing to prove to anyone.

Smith & Theron Return For Hancock Sequel

I’m not one of those people who believe that just because I hated a film everyone else did too. Far from it, audiences ate up cinematic shit buckets like the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and both Transformers like it was ice cream. That's fine and I get that. I just can’t think of too many people who actually enjoyed the “Will Smith as an alcoholic dickhead superhero” vehicle Hancock back in July 2008.

But Smith’s an honest-to-God movie star (very few of those around – the others being Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks) who will bring in audiences at packed cinema-house no matter what he headlines. Unless it’s Seven Pounds, apparently.

We heard a few weeks ago that Sony and director Peter Berg were moving forward on a sequel going as far to hire screenwriters.  Now Berg confirms to MTV what we had already assumed by this point. Will Smith will return to done the leather eagle-logoed suit again in addition to his immortal super-powered God co-star Charlize Theron and presumably Jason Bateman (aka the only person who walked away from that clutterfuck mess with dignity intact). And there will apparently be a third God introduced (the villain I guess?) with a “well-known name” actor being eyed for the role.

Smith’s worldwide popularity notwithstanding, this sounds like the cast and crew are more interested in exploring the “mythology” from Hancock than everyone else. So don't be surprised if this is another Angels & Demons where the sequel does half of the box-office from the first film.

The Dude is Rooster

I recall a while back that The Coen's were setting themselves to do a remake of the John Wayne classic "True Grit," only it wouldn't be a remake, it would be a more faithful adaption of the Charles Portis book than the 1969 fil. Well today comes news from Variety  that they may have found their Rooster Cogburn, a role that won Wayne an Oscar.

In what is shaping up as a "Big Lebowski" reunion, Jeff Bridges is in discussions with Paramount to star in Joel and Ethan Coen's redo of "True Grit." Bridges would play the role that won John Wayne an Oscar for the 1969 original.

Bridges last worked with the Coens when he turned in a heralded performance as Jeffrey "the Dude" Lebowski in the 1998 cult fave.

The picture, which also reunites the Coens with their "No Country for Old Men" producing partner Scott Rudin, has been redrafted by the brothers to be more faithful to the Charles Portis novel on which the original film was based.

Story centers on a 14-year-old girl who tags along with an aging U.S. marshal, Rooster Cogburn, and another lawman to track the outlaw who killed her father. The original told the story from Cogburn's point of view, but the new version will work from the viewpoint of the girl.

I love the original and I find the Coen's hit and miss, but I think the casting of Bridges is the perfect choice if they must go ahead with this.

Josh Hartnett gets his guns!

Variety reports that Josh Hartnett is set to star as Gunslinger in a new movie conveniently called "Gunslinger," here's the detals.

Josh Hartnett has signed on to star in "Gunslinger," a revenge-driven tale set in the near future in the snowy wasteland of a post-apocalyptic America.

Hartnett will play a man who, along with his brother, sets out to kill the gang who killed their parents. Chris Nahon ("Blood: The Last Vampire") is directing, with Mark Williams and 2B Pictures' Albert Martinez Martin producing.

"This story takes a unique and startling look at what might happen when the lawlessness of the Old West returns ... but with better weapons," Williams said.

Lensing is set to begin in Canada early next year.

Not exactly anything startlingly original here but the fact this will be a snowy apocalyptic earth as opposed toi the usual desert or grimy industrial look, will at least give the movie a chance to fashion a unique vision visually.

By the Power of Grayskull, Get He-Man a Home!

Now that Warner Brothers is getting their shit together with DC Entertainment (as well as the final two Harry Potter films and the two-part Hobbit), looks like there isn't a place for He-Man and the gang from Masters of the Universe. Sounds like good old "creative differences" reared its ugly head as the studio decided to let its option expire. Now Mattel is off to find someone else willing to break their piggy-bank to get this made.

Tagging along with them is John Stevenson who was lined up for his live-action directorial debut by the Brothers Warners and producer Joel Silver (whose now off the project as well). This is all according to Variety.

Strike that. Latino Review flat out called this just under a year ago. Not word-for-word obviously. But in their own article detailing the shenanigans going on, they revealed that the studio was never really that keen on the property, couldn't successfully get a "big-name" director attached and the key executives who championed the new He-Man film left for greener pastures.

So props to El Mayimbe for hitting the nail with the hammer on this one.

The first footage of "Solomon Kane" has appeared online and once again we can thank Coming Soon. The trailer hails from Russia but it doesn't hinder the grandiose scale of the film.

The origin of Solomon Kane. The story opens with Kane as a mercenary of Queen Elizabeth I fighting in Africa.  After an encounter with a demon, The Reaper, he realizes he must seek redemption or have his soul damned to Hell. He returns to England and lives a life of peace, converting to puritanism, but soon the doings of an evil sorcerer upset his plans and he must take up arms again.

Clooney Stares At Goats

Overture Films via Coming Soon has released the first clip from the upcoming flick "The Men Who Stare At Goats". I'm not sure if there are really goats in this film but I do know that George Clooney and Ewan McGregor didn't harm them.
