First Star Trek Into Darkness Clip is Familiar

Hours away from the premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness in Sydney, Australia but there's no telling if Paramount will hold down embargoes or not. Even if they do, people talk. It's human nature. Can't stop that, J.J.

In the mean time, the first clip is online and if you paid the premium IMAX price just to see the first 10 minutes attached to The Hobbit, well this isn't anything you didn't see five months ago.

    Weekend Box Office: April 19-20

    Courtesy of Box Office Mojo:

    1.  Oblivion -  $38.1 million

    2.  42 - $18.2 million

    3.  The Croods - $9.5 million

    4.  Scary Movie 5 - $6.2 million

    5.  G.I. Joe: Retaliation - $5.7 million

    6.  The Place Beyond the Pines - $4.7 million

    7.  Olympus Has Falling - $4.5 million

    8.  Evil Dead - $4.1 million

    9.  Jurassic Park 3D - $4 million

    10.  Oz The Great and Powerful - $3 million

Tom Cruise?  Yep, he's still got it.  Oblivion, which opened to big numbers overseas last weekend, had a very good start here, opening with an estimated $38.1 million.  That's the best opening for a Tom Cruise movie since 2005's War of the Worlds, and it's on par with the openings for the first three Mission Impossible films (the fourth opened in limited release).  It's not a blockbuster by any means, but a good warmup for the impending summer movie season.

Still doing terrific business is 42, which dropped a mere 34% since last weekend to earn $18.2 million.  The baseball film is likely to cross the $100 million mark by the end of its box office run.

The rest of the box office was a relatively quiet.  The Croods is still going strong, earning another $9.5 million, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation is still hanging around with $5.7 million.  Scary Movie 5 dropped further into obscurity with just $6.2 million.  The Place Beyond the Pines, which expanded into 1028 more thaters this weekend, earned just $4.7 million.

Next week, the calm before the Iron Man 3 kickoff into summer movie season, will see the openings of Michael Bay's Pain and Gain, and the romantic comedy The Big Wedding.

Tom Hiddleston in early talks for THE CROW; Yes, THAT Crow.

I'm sure you all forgot about Relativity Media's remake of the acclaimed 1993 film, The Crow, didn't you? After Bradley Cooper was in talks to play Eric Draven in late 2011, even having sme concept art drawn up; with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, The Intruders) directing, the project fell apart due to a law-suit, people got bored, and Cooper went on to be an Oscar nominated actor in Silver Lining's Playbook while actors like Marky Mark and Channing Tatum were rumored for the role before the project was put on hold.

Flash-forward to just a few weeks ago and James MacAvoy was in talks for the lead- which was soon dismissed- and now it seems your Eric Draven might be none other than Tom Hiddleston, the face you got sick of as he joined Benedict Cumberbatch in the league of people with creepy annoying obnoxious fangirls you wish would shut the hell up.

    From The Wrap:

Hiddleston recently had dinner with producers and sent them a makeup test that he did on his own in London. He will undergo a proper makeup test in the coming days, as the character's appearance is important to fans of the franchise, who should be delighted with the casting of a major member of the Marvel universe.

Acclaimed Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez ("Before the Fall") is directing "The Crow" from a script by Cliff Dorfman ("Warrior"), though it's possible that other writers will be credited as well.

Production is tentatively scheduled to begin this fall, though the timetable could move slightly depending on several factors.

Well, what do you all think? is a remake of The Crow still a stupid idea, or has casting Loki cheered you up enough to go reblog a bunch of GIFs of Tom eating a sandwich or something?

Rest Assured, Bay's Turtles Movie is Officially 'TEENAGE MUTANT' NINJA TURTLES

TMNT Lair just confirmed that at CinemaCon, Paramount has revealed the logo for Michael Bay's controversial Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot- which WAS called Ninja Turtles, much to the ire of the die-hard fans of the comic/cartoon series- and it's officially called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The film, which began a hectic production back in September and featured the shelled heroes as aliens or whatever,  has undergone extensive rewrites from Snow White and the Huntsman scribe  Evan Daugherty and will now feature Turtles who are both teenagers and mutants. Cool.

Filming has already begun, with Bay producing, Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans, Battle: Los Angeles) directing, and stars Megan Fox, Danny Woodburn, Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek and Noel Fisher.

Keanu Reeves to Star in Sci-Fi Chick Flick: PASSENGERS

Deadline reports that Keanu Reeves is set to star in Brian Kirk's feature film debut: Passengers written by Jon Spaihts, who wrote Prometheus and Universal's upcoming Mummy reboot.

The story follows a spacecraft transporting thousands of people to a distant colony planet that has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger (Reeves) is awakened 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger, marking the beginning of what becomes a unique love story.

The role of the female passenger has yet to be cast, and the film is to be made available to distributors next month at the Cannes Film Festival.

It's been all quiet on the Reeves front lately, we all know how good his last MAJOR film, the ill-received remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still was, and Reeves is also set to star in 47 Ronin, whenever the hell that thing even comes out.
