Transformers 3: Revenge of the 3D

With Transformers 3 still over a year away and production having just started Michael Bay is intent on convincing fans he will finish the trilogy with the dignity it started with. After last years ridiculous Transformers: the Revenge of the Fallen it didn't seem like the franchise could be redeemed. But Bay knows he dropped the ball, and he plans to right that wrong with this third entry into the franchise.

In a recent set visit that USA Today had on Transformers 3, they spoke to Michael Bay and Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura about what we can expect. They also confirmed the already obvious that it will be shot in and released in 3D.

The villain this time around will be Shockwave, the robot cyclops-turned-laser-cannon, who became dictator of their home world of Cybertron after the other Autobots and Decepticons journeyed to Earth.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will be the new love interest for Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) as earlier reported. The one thing they didn't however mention was whether or not Megan Fox is brutally murdered in the opening sequence.

The plot involves the space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA. Which to be honest sounds a lot more interesting than what they've done with the previous two films. According to Bay The movie is more of a mystery, and it has a really killer ending. I'm not getting my hopes too high either, because I'm sure he also thought Revenge of the Fallen was great until everyone told him otherwise.

Maybe it's sacrilege to say so, but I really love Michael Bay. I'm not going claim he's a good filmmaker by any stretch, but he's an action director. At least he's good at that--I'd much rather watch an action film by Michael Bay than Brett Ratner or McG. Transformers 2 may have been total garbage, but I still liked the first flick, and I like most of Bay's other films save Pearl Harbor, which only had a few interesting sequences.

I know Bay is a big 35mm film advocate, so it'll be interesting to see how he works with digital. Honestly, Michael Bay's frenzied camerawork and editing style is going to be pretty amazing in 3D. Probably very hard on the eyes as well.

Hopefully the third film will at least be as good as the original. Not that the original was a particularly good movie, but it was way better than the nearly-unwatchable part 2. And that's coming from someone who actually likes Bay to a degree.

Honestly, I secretly wanted Bay to do Avengers. Heh.

The first one was pretty awesome, and he does have quite a few good flicks

I enjoyed the first one, but the second is nearly unwatchable. As for the rest of his work, I don't mind it. Some if it I would even say I really like. To name a few, Bad Boys 1&2, Armageddon, the rock...other than that I can't say too much for him.

I actually don't think Bay ever gets enough credit for his cinematography. Obviously he's working with talented people, but he's very involved in the camerawork and visuals of his films, and I like the look of his movies a lot. Bad Boys II especially. I figure if I'm going to watch a bad action movie, and a lot of them are, with Bay I can at least be reasonably sure that the sheer spectacle will be impressive enough for me to overlook the lack of any real story. He's one of the only action directors that can handle that "spectacle," like Cameron. Of course Cameron has a lot more talent than just visuals, which has a lot to do with my undying appreciation for the guy (I'm even willing to forgive the bland plot of Avatar in comparison to his original story because he pulled off the visuals and action magnificently).

And Mitch, I agree with your list of the "good" Bay flicks. I like all of those ones.

I liked both transformers films. Granted the first was better, but the second isn't as bad as people make it out to be

You're not the first person I've seen defending Transformers 2, and I have to give credit to anyone willing to. I will defend Michael Bay to the grave, but even I'm not brave enough to do that for Revenge of the Fallen. I actually watched it twice to make sure--I saw it in the theater and had kind of a bad theater experience, so a few weeks ago I rented the DVD to give it another shot, but I still didn't like it.

I guess the writer's strike really hurt the movie, because as much as Bay loves to cram in unnecessary scenes, much of Transformers 2 felt totally pointless in terms of plotting. I think some of the humor in the first flick works, but most of it fell really flat for me in the sequel.

It just didn't feel like Michael Bay was even trying. The visuals and effects were so sub-par compared to the original.

I didn't really like either, and I doubt I'll see this third one unless for some weird reason it gets amazing reviews. Bay is okay, but nowhere near someone like say Nolan

Leave it to a fanboy^ to bring Nolan into any arguement possible. I like MOST of what Bay does, and just from the sounds of this thrid one I will be seeing it. But if this turns out like revenge of the fallen Bay is forver on my shit list for raising my hopes like this

I have to admit, I saw the first installment of TRANSFORMERS (2007) twice in the theaters, but when TRANSFORMERS: ROTF arrived, I was skeptical. This time I waited, and then, I “Downloaded” it. I know that may have been wrong, but I’m very critical about what I watch and I was glad I didn’t spend $11-12 (especially twice) to see this installment in the theaters that time around. I was really disappointed and knew it was going to be “Overkill” for a Transformers movie. I don’t believe the “Writers Strike” had that much involvement in the final product which was “Revenge of the Fallen.” If Bay wants to blame anyone (heavily), it’s himself. As he has stated on his own website; “"I'll take some of the criticism," Bay also stated, "It was very hard to put (the sequel) together that quickly after the writers' strike (of 2007-08)." Casting, Editing, Scripts, Shooting the Movie, he should be more reluctant than just to say “some of the criticism.” There was no reason for the studio (Universal) or Bay to hurry, or “to put (the sequel) together that quickly” after what some fans and critics around the world are calling TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen “One of the worse sequels ever made.” Hopefully now, after the Megan Fox drama, Bay & Co. have finally come to their senses.
