Green Lantern Is Officially Reynold's Gig

Props go out to US Magazine for being the ones to call this via mere hours ago.

Now the trades have officially confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will in fact yield the power ring as Hal Jordan in Green Lantern. I guess this in its own right tells us that the Deadpool spin-off film (that incidentally Reynolds was the only person talking up to the press) will go the way of Justice League: Mortal.

I was bullshitting with fellow TMT writer Sean Gerski about an hour ago about a number of forthcoming comic-book properties. And when the topic of Lantern arose, he (to his credit) confidently stated that it would be Reynolds. Let's see if Sean's other prediction(s) end up happening...

With their leading man set in stone and ready to done the black and green suit, production is now slated commence filming in Australia this coming January under the direction of Martin Campbell who successfully introduced the world to the last two James Bonds as well as the under-rated Mask of Zorro.

Although I've liked Reynolds fine in what I've seen him in, I never particularly "got" his appeal. Not to mention, the constant mentions of his name from fan-boys anytime a comic-book is optioned by a studio for a blockbuster tentpole.

That said, I've always been one to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt. I did so with Christopher Nolan on Batman, Sam Raimi on Spider-Man, Bryan Singer on X-Men and Superman, etc. So I trust that everyone involved with Green Lantern know what they're doing...

Well to put it nice...they've already fucked the pooch on this film...haven't they?

I'm glad I'm not the only one slightly disappointed with this choice. I like Reynolds fine, but idk I was just hoping it wasn't him my buzz for the film has died down a bit. But I still will see it

I'm thrilled with this choice. Deadpool never seemed like it would go beyond one and done if it ever happened, and he has a nice franchise here, where he's the headliner not a supporting player. he is too old fro Wally, and Hal is a role that plays to his strengths IMO.

Bring on the Green lantern Movie!

What were those other predictions, Sean?

I'm slightly let down. Reynolds just seemed to be out of the blue for GL-- I honestly thought it would be Bradley Cooper.

Don't worry fellow fanboys, I'm sure Ryan will do a great job.

I'm sorry there is a world of better choices out there if we're lucky the movie will fail enough to get him off the project but succeed enough to give us a better sequel like what happened with hulk, he's Eric Bana, and Nathan Fillion is gonna be Ed Norton. I'm sorry guys, but there's no looking past it, this was just the wrong call. I don't mind reynolds as an Actor, but he's just not right for the part, and I don't think he can carry a film that doesn't require him to snarky every five seconds.

Nathan Fillion plays 'the same guy' in everything that he has been in, and that is one of the concerns that I have regarding Reynolds.

The more I think about this casting, the more it grows on me. I think Reynolds will win everyone over as long as he doesn't pull out a Van Wilder or Hannibal King performance.

Sketkh I'm sorry but I could not disagree more. Not to mention BOTH Hulk films were mediocre.

That manip is awesome, Reynolds looks like a true hero in it. Don't let us down Ryan! :)

I think he has been able to actually act so that is a good thing.
