Movie Moan: Bat-Shaped Cough Drops
Sir Michael Caine will do to Halls Cough Drops what the late Michael Gough did for Diet Coke if the Movie Moan crew has their way! Because The Dark Knight Rises is starved for attention as you all know.
Captain Ed Hocken reviews the British sci-fi/horror/comedy Attack of the Block to much praise, while keeping details vague (because there are some movies even we don't want to give away!) Meanwhile, Queen Kristina and Jamie rip the shit out of Cowboys & Aliens and praise Rise of the Planet of the Apes to no end. Yes, spoilers on both and yes, Jamie acknowledges he was dead wrong labeling the Apes prequel the flop of the summer. Good to wrong sometimes!
In the week of the news, the group focuses on two big first-looks for forthcoming superhero epics: Henry Cavill as Superman in The Man of Steel and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Lots of joking at the expense of fandom and their over-analyzing and nit-pickiness ensue.
Apologies for any audio issues, folks. The British Gentleman agent Phil Gee should be back next week from his (well-deserved) vacation and we're working with what we've got. Hope you enjoy nonetheless!

I'll keep my opinions of Cowboys and Aliens to myself... I'm more interested in what A2THEH has to say ;-)
Obviously, because of the surprise commercial, not to mention critical success of Apes, my interest has peaked somewhat... the only thing that still bothers me is the way the apes move. Facially, they look pretty impressive, but whenever you see them run or scale something, their movement looks awkward.
Cavill's hair bothered me, beause it was the only part of the image that looked reasonably well-lit. It almost looked like he was sporting a halo ; very Ken doll-like, aswell. The concern I have with Fishburne has NOTHING to do with his skin color, but it's his abillity to breath life into a role that is supposed to be lively and humourous. He's not a terrible actor, but he can come across as stiff at times.
As for Catwomen... I'm just disapointed that there isn't any sex appeal from looking at that photo. Hathaway can be sexy (Get Smart), but she looks like your generic, kick-ass chick from that picture. She'll probably be fleetingly mentioned on a news bulletin as being nicknamed "The Catwomen" and that will be it for the rest of the film.
Sorry to disappoint everyone but I will not be part of next week's show either. It is for a very good reason though. I'm going to at Empire magazine's 'Big Screen' event this weekend. Particularly on Sunday evening I will be at the UK premier of 'Conan 3D'.
I promise to come back the week after with lots of stories though.
Conan 3D? Good luck, Phil!
I still think they should have cast Conan O'brien.
Wait Jamie you are not off the hook yet! I'm not talking about Apes. I'm talking about Cowboys & Aliens. I TOLD YOU SO! I told you it was going to flop! I was right! And it sucked too, ouch. Good thing I didn't watch it. Surprise hit of the summer my ass! It's clear that Jon Favreau does need Iron Man to make money. In your face! HAHAHA!
Anyway Rise of the Planet of the Apes was awesome the best movie of the summer and year that I've seen so far. Andy Serkis as Caesar kicked ass! The scene that you guys won't spoil and I won't either literally made me say "WTF!" out loud. I had never had that kind of reaction in a theater ever!
Henry Cavill as Superman looks badass! I said it before and I'll say it again he looks better than Christopher Reeve.
As for the Catwoman pic I like it except for the fact that she is wearing goggles instead of a mask. But IN NOLAN I TRUST! Suck it Jamie.
Why didn't you guys talk about The Amazing Spider-Man teaser? Or the reports of the Comic-Con footage getting a great reaction. Better than the teaser we got. Oh yeah that's right Jamie doesn't care. Oh boy this is Bash Jamie Williams Day for me isn't it. Just in good fun Jamie. :)
Phil I hope you enjoy Conan in 3D. I doubt it but I speak for everyone here that we miss you!
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is not a straight prequel, because in the first movie, the original Planet of the Apes, (spoilers) humanity destroys itself in a nuclear war, thus apes can take over the Earth. In "Rise", man looks to be (spoiler) destroyed by a virus. The original movie implies that is man destroyed himself because of war and destruction.
