Captain Toupee is the Bad Lieutentant!

Coming Soon has grabbed an exclusive of this extremely bland poster for the forthcoming Nic "Toupee" Cage thriller "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans."

I've given up trying to figure out what motivates Cage these days as his filmography is one of the greatest mixes of the sublime and atrocious I've ever seen. He's back here with "Ghost Rider" co-star Eva Mendes in a film that is not a remake of the Harvey Keitel flick.....for some reason Werner Herzog has decided to helm the thing. you can check the poster out below.

In Werner Herzog's new film "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs -- while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes). Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.

Teen Wolf Series Headed To Mtv

Mtv, the network that actually used to air music videos, has commissioned a pilot episode for a series based on the Michael J. Fox 80's film Teen Wolf.

However it sounds as though the series will have more in common with Buffy, The Vampire Slayer than it's source material. The MTV version will be set in high school, draw from the horror genre to explore werewolf mythology and include a romantic plot line, according to The Trades.

"It has a fresh take and is very different from the original," said Liz Gateley, senior vp MTV series development. "It has more of an 'American Werewolf in London' feel to it. It's a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques."

Okay, comparing this proposed series to 'An American Werewolf In London' is a bold (and most likely inaccurate) statement, but the premise does sound better than the remake rumors that I heard about a few years back. Those rumors included a female Teen Wolf with Smallville's Tom Welling as the love interest.

The new 'Teen Wolf' pilot was written by 'Criminal Minds' creator Jeff Davis, who will executive produces with Marty Adelstein (Fox's 'Prison Break') and Rene Echevarria (ABC's 'Castle').

Confucius Trailer

The Philosophy Of Confucius:

* The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell.

* Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without.

* Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.

* Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.

* An oppressive government is fiercer and more to be feared than a tiger.

Tron Legacy Officially Coming December 2010

My TMT partner-in-crime Peter Georgiou and I shoot the shit quiet frequently. Whenever the subject at hand involves the latest bullshit in film-news (which tends to be 99.999% of the time), we come to our conclusion(s) on whatever the topic based on common sense (or specifically the "sense" of your average studio executive), logic and good ol fashioned connecting-the-dots. And it's that state of mind which (in my opinion) sets us apart because we don't simply assume everyone else is excited about a upcoming film 100% based we ourselves are and automatically proclaim that "it's gonna be huge" (i.e. nerdgasm).

Hence why we both knew that Watchmen (as brilliant of a film that it ultimately was) wouldn't "click" with the general public. So when the subject of Tron Legacy arose, Pete simply stated, "It's a sequel to a nearly 30 year-old cult film that bombed in theatres. No one outside of the Internet community will give a shit."

Cut to the 2008 Comic-Con test footage for the sequel being released to the public. Upon seeing it, Peter confessed, "Honestly, that looks pretty damn awesome. I will definitely go see it now." The funny thing is he tends to be the more level-headed and rational one between us. Even more interesting is that I've heard similar reactions from others - the kind of folks who have zero idea of what Tron is/was to begin with. Or in Peter's case, knew about the original 1982 film and simply didn't give a fuck initially.

And that's exactly why I'd be worried if I were Sony right about now. The studio recently announced their Seth Rogen-starring/Michel Gondry-directed Green Hornet had moved from July 7th to December 17th of next year. But now (as per Coming Soon) Disney has "coincidentally" set the theatrical release of Tron Legacy for that date as well where it will also face off against Sony's The Smurfs and Warner Brothers' Yogi Bear.

Of course, who are we kidding? This is nothing more than a game of chicken to see who will flinch. At the very least, one of these four films will move. But it won't be the Tron sequel.

Mastodon To Score Jonah Hex

Harry Knowles over at Aint It Cool News broke the news today that the heavy metal band Mastodon will be scoring DC's Western badass Jonah Hex's movie.  To read what Harry had to say, simply click the link above.  Needless to say he's pretty stoked about it.  A metal band scoring a Western?  An odd mix to say the least, but one I imagine I'll like.

For those who don't know Mastodon, check out their song Oblivion below:

Just When You Couldn't Get Enough "Fat Old Black Lady" Jokes...

In the holy trinity of "comedian dressing up as old black lady" sub-section in the comedy genre, there lies Tyler Perry, Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.

And while Perry will every-so-often make a film without Madea and Murphy still has shitty kid-friendly fare to fall back on, it's been slim pickins' for Lawrence. Oh sure, Sony is trying to get Bad Boys 3 off the ground and he'll no doubt be the easiest of the key players to agree to come back. But the cost of getting Will Smith, Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer could very-well lead to its un-making.

What is Lawrence to do then? "Fear not!" says 20th Century Fox arriving on their white horse to save the day. That's right, folks. Big Momma's House 3 is in our future.

And since those fart jokes and horny old people gags don't write themselves (until proven otherwise by our crack team of TMT scientists), Randi Mayem Singer will fill in those blanks with the power of his laptop. That is according to Variety.

With horror films, animation and ego-driven James Cameron projects reliant on the technology, what's to stop Fox from making Big Momma 3-D?

'Boondock Saints II' Trailer

Boondock Saints, the 2000 crime picture renowned for the unique story of the fast rise and fall of its egomaniacal filmmaker, Troy Duffy, as well as the cult following that appeared later on home release, gets the sequel treatment with this follow-up. Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus reunite as the vigilante MacManus brothers, with Billy Connolly returning as Il Duce. Duffy once again directs from his own script, with Clifton Collins Jr., Julie Benz, and David Della Rocco filling out the rest of the cast.

'The Green Hornet' Has Wings

Despite my critical rants to the contrary, "The Green Hornet" is actually happening. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen but Columbia Pictures via Latino Review has announced that cameras began rolling on September 2nd. On top of the announcement that principal photography has begun on the the film, additions to the cast were also revealed. Joining Seth Rogen, Nic Cage, and Cameron Diaz, are Tom Wilkinson, Edward James Olmos, and David Harbour.

I honestly appreciate the quirky subtlety that Michel Gondry can bring to a flick, I'm just not sure how that will fit into the Green Hornet universe. I would imagine they are hoping for a presentation similar to another television show turned movie, "Get Smart". That flick went over pretty solid on screen and if I'm the studio I'm crossing my fingers for a mirror of that box office take. Hopefully this isn't Rogen's "Land of the Lost" and the general public actually cares enough to buy some tickets.

Adding Tom Wilkinson to the cast is a bold move and to me adds some credibility to the flick depending on the role he actually does play. Just seeing that guy on screen gives the impression that whatever movie I am watching matters. Wilkinson stole the show as Benjamin Franklin in HBO's mini series "John Adams". Even his small role as Carmine Falcone in "Batman Begins" made me giddy. I Heart Wilkinson.
