Robin Wright Joins 'Blade Runner' Sequel
With production set to kick off this summer, news hit over the weekend that Robin Wright is in final negotiations to join the cast of the yet untitled Blade Runner sequel.
Alcon Entertainment - who purchased the franchise rights back in 2011 - has apparently been after Wright for quite some time for an undisclosed role in the film but her avaibility was in question due to her House of Cards schedule, which is currently in its fourth season on Netflix. The studio reportedly was able to work out things out and a deal is expected to close soon.
The film - to be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) - is set several decades after the original sci-fi classic which took place in Los Angeles 2019. Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Rick Deckard and will be joined by Ryan Gosling in a still unknown role.
The screenplay was written by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green, and based on a story by Fancher himself and Ridley Scott (director of the orginal).
The Blade Runner sequel is scheduled to hit theaters January 18th, 2018.
