Tom Cruise Wants to Know What Love Is

That's actually kinda cool.  Courtesy of Deadline, we have our first look of Tom Cruise as rocker Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages.  Directed by Hairspray's Adam Shankman, Rock of Ages is an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical about the denziens of Sunset Strip nightclub in the 1980s.  Cruise's character is the egomaniac (read: jerk) lead singer of the rock band Arsenal, who agrees to play the band's final show at the club to save it from destruction at the hands of a greedy developer.

If the movie sticks to the songs from the show, we'll get to hear Cruise sing such 80s hits as "Wanted Dead or Alive," "I Want to Know What Love Is," "Come On Feel the Noise," and "Heat of the Moment."  That could be...interesting, to say the least.  But the picture looks promising:

Rock of Ages opens in theaters on June 1, 2012.  In addition to Cruise, the movie also stars Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, and Mary J. Blige.
