Fassbender Confirmed for X-Men: First Class
Heat Vision is reporting that Michael Fassbender has officially signed on to play Magneto in X-Men: First Class. The Inglorious Basterds star, who was also rumored to be up for a role as a villian in the upcoming Spiderman reboot, will join James McAvoy (as Charles Xavier) and Benjamin Walker (as Hank McCoy) in the X-Men prequel, which will be directed by Matthew Vaughn.
With the movie scheduled to start filming in September, casting rumors have been running wild for several weeks now, and we should be getting some more official confirmations shortly. The official synopsis of the film is here:
“Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.”
Well, that doesn't seem like anything we didn't already know about the movie...but it does sound like everything is coming together nicely so far.
X-Men: First Class is scheduled to open in theaters June 3, 2011.
