Smallville Absolute Justice or Absolute Crap?

Friday, February 5th will be a day that will live in infamy. Well, for a bunch of fanboys at least. And I'm not talking about comic enthusiasts. I'm referring to the heaping mounds of viewers that have helped Smallville limp on season after season just waiting for that one explosive moment where Clark Kent will assume his throne as The World's Greatest Hero. At which, I'm assuming each and every loyal viewer will wet his or her pants. Well, don't stock up on the depends just yet. The picture's a fake.
The Smallville "Movie Event" entitled Absolute Justice will air at Smallville's regularly scheduled time at 8pm est on The CW and sludge on for not one, but two hours. Clark and Chloe, you remember her from the comics, right? No? Hmmm...anyway, they join forces with The Green Arrow and John Jones, aka The Martian Manhunter to help the Justice Society of America fight off the "super villain" Icicle.
Basically, the story arcs have been lacking at best, but since they seemed to get away with time travel and Zod taking over the world, the new idea is to cram as many second rate super heroes into one episode as possible, story be damned. So, pin your red towels around your neck and settle in for the likes of Hawkman, Stargirl and Dr. Fate to name a few. I'm just kidding about the towels. I know you fanboys have your officially licensed capes.

I don't know what I dislike more, Smallville or Smallville fans. The show has been consistently underwhelming since the third season and I think all the hype surrounding this unnecessary TV movie will lead to a lot of disappointed people. I wish this show would just die already.
There's plenty of TV shows on nowadays. People watch shows that others hate. Lost, The Office, Sienfield, etc. Just because you hate certain shows doesn't mean you should go around wishing TV shows died. Others enjoy it. Let them enjoy it, and go find something else to watch.
As for Absolute Justice... It's a good idea, with some good characters, and a good comic book writer (Geoff Jones). But the execution of the story has always been Smallville's own kryptonite. Instead of big bangs, their episodes often times end "events" with a fizzle. But Smallville isn't the only show that suffers from this (see Heroes - every time a big battle is supposed to go down). We (and I mean other Smallville fans I know and myself) don't get as disappointed as one would imagine. The show is mediocre. We realize this. But we still get some viewing pleasure out of it. So we'll see if this one fizzles like others or if they can actually amount to something that comes close to being superheroic.
I wanted to like Smallville. When I saw the first TV spot for it, I couldn't wait to do a search on the internet for it. Then the countdown started for me. The first season, for me, was decent. Not great, but decent enough to anticipate another season. I liked the way they started before he had all of his powers. But we're kinda' into that stage of the series that Lois & Clark went in when Teri Hatcher cut her hair. That was the beginning of the end for me. The villains got goofier and the solutions and rescues got more far fetched...even considering we're dealing with an alien in the first place. If Erica Durance chops off her locks, I'll ban the show completely...then go cry myself to sleep. Look for a follow up article tomorrow night after Absolute Justice airs.
