Superman To "Kneel Before Zod" Again

I remember when there were rumors that Zod would be a villain in "Superman Returns" and the possible sequel the geekdom on the forums and other parts of the interwebs weren't exactly geeked. It will be interesting to see their reaction now.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that General Zod is going to be the main villain in the upcoming Superman film that we now know is being directed by Zack Snyder.
I am just as surprised about this bit of news as I was that Zack Snyder is going to be directing the new version of Superman. Fans have been clamoring for villain such as Brainiac and Doomsday since "Superman Returns" took flight in 2006.
I think they can really make Zod interesting, but you wonder if there will be another villain joining Zod such as Metallo. I personally think we'll be seeing Zod, Lex, leading up to Brainiac.
This news also brings the question to the table, will this new film have any connection to the Donner films which featured Zod? What about "Superman Returns?
Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow and find out that this whole Zod thing is some kind of elaborate red herring.
We are now getting a lot of answers, but with these answers come a lot of questions. I don't know about you but I can't wait to find out.

Zod is a great villain and his recent reinvention in the comic books by geoff johns really shows the potential in the last son story arc and action comics annual 10. I can already hear the complaining about his character but some fans should actually try reading for once instead of looking at superman 2 for reference as the be all and end all. Zod actually has a purpose unlike darkseid so now I'm really interested in this film.
I have not been thrilled at all with the Superman news we've been getting today. Between Snyder as the director, Routh "unlikely to return" (although that was pretty much a give, but still sucks), and Zod as the main villian, I am completely underwhelmed.
But I'm not going to lie, I can't wait to find out what news is next simply because there is finally news and I'm interested to see where they are going with it, even if I don't like it so far.
Unfortunately we probably wont be hearing a lot for a while exept maybe script details which is what I'm most interested in since this is the script that lit the fire for wb to get this thing going.
I'm ok with Zod this time. I didn't want him for a SR sequel, because I knew it would have to tie back to the Donner films again, and Singer really needed to move past that. With this film, Zod won't be tied to those films.
I was hoping for a villain who hasn't been on film. Though hopefully zod isn't the only threat. Also I really hope we wont get any donner takes in the film. I want a fresh take.
Most of the articles on this site are decent, but you guys have been wrong on almost everything Superman. Nolan's bro directing? NOPE. Geoff Johns writing MOS? NOPE. Then the story of Nolan godfathering the project came from another website entirely deadline.com I think. It makes it seem like some of the editors aren't really hearing news, but making some up. Oh well.
