Spartacus Brings Blood And Sand To Cable

In Hollywood the old adage ‘Imitation is the highest form of flattery’ has never rang more true -- especially when imitating a film that has earned a boat full of money like Zach Snyder’s 2007 hit 300. The premium cable network Starz is most definitely hoping to copy 300’s success with their latest original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Along with the blood and sand Spartacus will also feature swordplay, severed limbs, and steamy sex. All of which are shown in the teaser for the The R rated series.

Australian actor Andy Whitfieldstars as the historic Spartacus (109 B.C.-71 B.C.). The series will be set in his early days before the slave/gladiator led an uprising against the Roman Empire in The Third Servile War. Xena herself, Lucy Lawless will co-star as Lucretia, who along with her husband Batiatus (portrayed by John Hannah)owns the Ludus gladiator camp. The New Zealand filmed series is co-produced by Sam Raimi , with Smallville’s Steven DeKnight serving as head writer. Spartacus: Blood and Sand debuts in January, 2010 only on Starz.

Um. Lucy Lawless naked would have meant more ten years ago.

Oh, and everyone should imitate Snyder's 300 instead of Gladiator. Cause the plot of 300 didn't matter and people saw it , people didn't give a crap about Rome on HBO. - Hollywood studio exec.
