Movie Moan 2015: Episode 13 - That Scallywag Just Took Ma Pants

Maybe Phil is setting himself up for a fall but EVERY moment, scene, line of dialogue, and actor is perfect in James Cameron's original tech-noir classic 'The Terminator'. So when someone comes along with the intention of replicating it and fails to cast the role of 'Hobo In Alley' correctly, you're damn right he's going to be pissed off.

But that doesn't mean he hated 'Terminator: Genysis'. It's........complicated folks.

    Classic Movie Moan
Phil, Jamie, Matt Thompson & Spencer Perry bring the epic saga to anticipating and dreading Terminator 5 to a close and have plenty to say about it; how they completely changed the appearance of the stargazing punks and thought we wouldn't notice, the fact that Skynet has now been reduced to an App, how Phil actually forgot the film has a helicopter chase, Arnold's missing ass crack. It's all here (7:49).

    Marveling At The Future
After a few weeks away, Phil & Spencer just take the opportunity to catch up on all the comic book film and TV news which means the most to them. Which is code for "when is Daredevil Season 2 coming out?" Spencer also tells all about the first 8 minutes of 'Ant-Man'. Get some ice cream out of the fridge folks. This one will make you hungry (55:50).

    Cinematic Happy Comfort Food
Phil goes solo this episode to gush about one of his personal favourites; 'Up In The Air' from 2009 (1:49:46).

TERMINATOR GENISYS is definitely a better movie than I was expecting it to be, but that doesn't really make it a good movie. It’s paced really well, and it’s definitely entertaining, but the plotting is just ridiculous and the way it leans on the narratives of T1 and T2 is really lazy. For it to boil down to just being another “Let’s stop Judgment Day… again!” is just a baffling direction for the fifth film in a franchise to take. And the decision to do what they do with John Connor kind of rubbed me the wrong way, because it essentially renders the emotional stakes of the first two films (the only two great ones of this series) completely irrelevant.

But even still, I enjoyed the movie marginally more than I didn’t! Put that on the Blu-ray cover, Paramount!

Given the general apathy - maybe even a tinge of hostility - any new Terminator movie would have to cure world hunger, cancer, and rectify the story telling problems of Man of Steel to turn heads.

So it's great to see the general reaction amongst you Moaners was positive.

As to Dardevil, I'm indifferent to the Punisher and the actor playing him. Unless they can come up with a new twist the Punisher as a character has been superseded by the violence in movies and even the 6 o'clock news and so has lost that edge that made him interesting to begin with.
