Movie Moan - Days Of Future Makinov

Today begins a new order.  Your lives, your possessions, your very lives will gladly be given in tribute to MAKINOV!

And if you don't know who or what that is then stay tuned as Jamie, Phil and regular guest Gabe Toro, film critic for The Playlist and Jump Cut Junkies unravel the mystery:

4:40 mins - Is there any point talking about this year's Oscars.  Oh, go on then.  But be quick.

15:20 mins - Gabe tells us about the limited release motion picture event 'Come Out And Play' directed by MAAAAAAAKINOV.

21:30 mins - The larger question concerning 'Jack The Giant Slayer' is not how unmemorable it is, but why was it made in the first place?

32:20 mins - Is 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' too stuffed with characters to keep from falling apart?  Are the cast of 'First Class' getting shafted in favour of the old guard?  Is X3 a sexist piece of shit or just a piece of shit?

It's difficult to envision a scenario wherein 'Days of Future Past' isn't a total mess; it'll be hard to service the dozen-or-so major characters in the context of a satisfying story, and if that's not possible, then why bother bringing all of them back? They'd better have a screenplay that justifies the cast they have, or else it'll be a massive waste of talent. Of course, massive wastes of talent are not anything too out of the ordinary for big budget blockbusters, but after getting this franchise back on the rails with 'First Class,' a step backwards would be a big disappointment. But it is still WAY too early to render any real judgments on this thing, I suppose. Maybe it will be excellent; stranger things have certainly happened.

Sir, if it were too early to pronounce judgement on films a year and four months before they're coming out, we'd have nothing to do around here.

I think there is a lot to get excited about and I maintain that the first footage we see at Comic Con this year is going to bring the house down and own that show.

But as for the finished film, I see there being no middle ground. It will either be next year's 'The Avengers' or next year's 'Southland Tales'.
