Movie Moan: Magic Marshmallows
Along with an updated opening, Phil, Ed and Jamie are happy to welcome back their pal Lou to this week's Movie Moan. Now that he's finally able to return, the Wise-Sage, as Phil calls him, gives his two-cents on past news-items. Here's what's on the menu this week:-
3:40 mins - Lou's corner of wisdom informs us how wrong we are about 'The Dark Tower's' ambitious plans and the irony of the man who sung 'The Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins' possibly voicing Smaug the dragon.
7:40 mins - Jamie paid money to see 'The Hangover Part II'. He should have stayed home.
12:30 mins - Casting updates on that Total Recall remake and just the overall feeling of "Really?" regarding its development.
20:30 mins - Trailer-reaction to The Muppets
25:15 mins - Trailer-reaction to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
30:20 mins - For the "Moan of the Week," her Majesty Queen Kristina picked Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, a fantastic documentary that should honestly be seen before hearing the gang's discussion of.
63:15 mins - A not too subtle preview of coming attractions to Movie Moan.

Nice to know that Lou is back on board! Will the titles be changed frequently?
The only reason I would watch The Hangover Part II is because Paul Giamatti is in it, but I've heard his role doesn't amount to much.
The Total Recall re-imagining... hmmm... I'm not gonna slate it before seeing on-set pictures or a trailer and I suppose you have to give them credit for doing something different with the story, but part of me thinks this is just a case of cynical "brand recognition". Sony knows that it worked for The Karate Kid and they're doing the same with this. I've always liked Colin Farrell (well, apart from in Alexander) and I do think he could've played a meek and mild character, but it doesn't sound like they are going in that direction (even though they said they were going back to the spirit of P.K.D a few months ago). I guess it's all up in the air at the moment... no that wasn't a Mars/reactor pun, there.
That Muppets movie is badly marketed, plain and simple (I concur that it looks like an S.N.L skit).
I skipped the Moan of the Week, but when going on IMDb to see if the film was available, I noticed the title they've listed is far more revealing. Thanks a bunch, IMDb!
I can't spesk for Lou but it's safe to say he'll be stopping by for the occasional guest spot from time to time.
I agree with the general sentiment regarding Total Recall. I'm afraid it's going to be terribly bland and come and go at the box office. The original is my favorite film of all time, and there's no chance the remake will approach its vitality for me. Since it came up during the discussion, Phil Dick's short story is the same as Total Recall the film up until the point when Arnold goes to Rekall, Inc. Thereafter the film diverges from Dick's story.
To be fair to the remake, it's ok that the filmmakers are not setting it on Mars, because We Can Remember It for You Wholesale stays on Earth as well. So the remake might actually be more faithful to the story in that regard. But let's face it: they will adhere to Total Recall the original film pretty closely, because that's the property that originally made money, not Dick's story. And this kind of remake is all about taking an established property and pimping it out to try to make more money.
