Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics kicked off Opening Night festivities of New York Comic Con with a standing-room-only World Premiere of the documentary on Thursday, October 10, the crowd enthusiastically applauding the film’s first public screening.

Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics explores the thin line between right and wrong, the nature of evil and how super-villains can reflect society’s dark side as well as our own personal fears.  It also offers insight as to the reasons comic book fans are so fascinated by the very characters they hope to see defeated. 
 
The film focuses on DC Comics’ most terrifying villains, including The Joker, Lex Luthor, Bane, Black Adam, Black Manta, Catwoman, Darkseid, Deathstroke, Doomsday, General Zod, Sinestro, the Suicide Squad, and more.

Christopher Lee, who has played the villain more times than almost any other actor, will provide his unique voice as narrator. The villains’ infamous tales will be told by directors Richard Donner (Superman), Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) and Zack Snyder (Man of Steel) as well as Geoff Johns (best-selling author and DCE’s Chief Creative Officer) and other storytellers, creators and those who have crafted the personalities and profiles of the most nefarious baddies in DC Comics history.

Also included are interviews from over forty subjects, including: DC comic book writers, artists, executives, filmmakers, comic experts, critics, historians and celebrities.

Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics contains footage from DC Entertainment’s animated series, TV shows, video games and live action films, as well as spotlighting hundreds of covers, pages and panels created by DC Comic’s legendary artists.

She-Hulk Back In Her Own Ongoing Series

In an interview with USA Today, Soule said, "One of the things I want to explore is the fact that she wants to be exceptional at everything she does, but that's not always possible. You can spread yourself too thin. She'll be out on her own, without much of a support group at first, a total underdog trying to make good. I love stories like that — Jen's going to be very easy to root for." One interesting connection comes from the fact that Soule is a lawyer himself, so we can rest assured that the depiction of the pressures of that career will be true to life.

Mighty Avengers NOW!

The Infinity event Marvel has been teasing has finally kicked off and the Avengers have gone offworld to face a threat that was meant as a distraction to leave the Earth vulnerable. Thanos needed to have the heroes away so that he could attack the planet with little to no opposition. Andy Kubert On Damian Wayne's Return

Grant Morrison recently wrapped up his seven year run on Batman which included some great concepts and fresh ideas for the Dark Knight. One of the central pieces to his story was fleshing out Bruce Wayne's son, Damian. An interesting concept Morrision vistied was in Batman #666, where Damian had become Batman in a dystopian future of Gotham.

Andy Kubert was handling art duties for the issue and even had some great ideas of his own that he pitched to DC Comics. Unfortunately the son of Batman met his demise recently in Morrison's Batman Inc, but Kubert is looking to revisit the events that led Damian to follow in his fathers footsteps from that issue #666.

I enjoyed the character when I had first started working on him with Grant [Morrison] way back in issue #655, even though he only had a slight appearance in that issue. Even though I had only drawn him in a handful of issues, Damian was really starting to grow on me. By the time I had finished drawing issue #666, which was the last issue of my run, I had such a great time drawing that issue that I wanted to do something with Damian Batman again.

Ultimate Spider-Man #26 Preview

The Ultimate Comics version of Spider-Man, Miles Morales, has been on a bit of a hiatus since his mother was tragically killed during a rampage through New York by that versions Venom. He has been pleaded with by Gwen Stacy to don the famous costume again and start helping people because that's what his mom would've expected of him. Something has caused him to become the hero again as seen in this preview of issue #26.

Venom Ends In October

Marvel.com has confirmed that they will be ending the 2 year plus running Venom title this October. Many fans would generally recognize Eddie Brock as the symbiote wearing Spidey villain, but in March of 2011 Rick Remender put another Spider-Man character, Flash Thompson, into the suit as a military type working for the government. Thompson had become a double amputee and gained the use of his legs again while bonded with the symbiote with restrictions of 48 hours at a time.

"The final six issues all feature [new character] Mania quite heavily," "Venom" writer Cullen Bunn told Marvel.com. "They are her origin story. Of course, she may not survive her own origin."

Speaking specifically of "Venom" #42, Bunn said, "The final issue is very personal to me for a number of reasons that we can discuss once it’s been published."

"With the final issue, I try to weave in elements that we’ve seen from the beginning: Flash’s struggle with alcoholism; his relationship with his dad; his injuries," Bunn said. "All these things have made him who he is."

Rick Remender Talks Uncanny Avengers

Comic Book Rources talked with Rick Remender at this years SDCC about his current popular series Uncanny Avengers and what fans can expect for the future of the series.

Ultimately, I'm writing that as if it's a metaphor for humanity. If the different factions of mankind can't work together, if we can't figure out all the solutions and how to cooperate with the problems we have as a species, then things are going to be bad for us moving forward. I always like to have something to say and some kind of metaphor where I can then extrapolate more than, "Scarlet Witch punches Wolverine!" Building on that, this is the natural consequence, this "Ragnarok Now" of these heroes behaving in a fashion that isn't necessarily heroic. They've been behaving -- I don't want to say selfish -- but petulant in some cases. That's the great thing about the Marvel Universe, that the characters are so fallible and they are so human. They have been making mistakes and they have been incapable of working as a unit.

DC Dominates A Strong July For Comics

The comics shop market enjoyed its best summer month in the Diamond Exclusive Era in dollar terms, ordering more dollars worth of comics and trade paperbacks in the month of July than it has in all but one month since 1997.

 Based on Comichron's analysis of preliminary data released by Diamond Comic Distributors, July's orders of $46.8 million topped every previous month (in non-inflation adjusted terms) with the exception of October 2012, which had set a mark of $47.3 million.

Comic book, graphic novel, and trade paperback orders were up 16.73% in dollars over last July, which had one less shipping week. That's right around the amount that an additional shipping week usually adds. That puts the market up 12.71% for the year, to nearly $297 million. The market is now running $35 million ahead of where it was last year at this time.

Superman Unchained #2 from DC led the comics periodical list, which saw DC nudging past Marvel in the dollar market shares category for the first time since last September. July comics orders were up 11.02% in units and 12.65% in dollars over last July.

Marvel's Hawkeye Vol. 2 topped the graphic novel list. Graphic novel and trade paperback sales were up by a great deal, more than 26%, over last July.

The Return Of Spider-Man 2099

When I was around age 9, Marvel launched the 2099 line of books for some of their well known characters. I thought it was the coolest thing then because I could jump on these issues at #1 and follow it from start to finish as it was happening. I couldn't tell you the last time that version of Spider-Man, Miguel O'Hara, appeared in any comics published from Marvel but the company is bringing him back next month in Superior Spider-Man #17.

Dan Slott has been killing it on that title since he introduced the idea of Doc Ock taking over Peter Parker's body. At first the idea seemed a little gimmicky, but I can honestly say that this is the most enjoyable Spider-Man story I've ever read personally. Given the great writing Slott has produced thus far, it makes it that much more exciting to see how he's planning on bringing this version of the character into the current story and how Otto Spidey will interact with him.
