DiCaprio to star in Nolan's 'Inception'

Wow! this one just got even bigger as one of the worlds biggest movie stars and best actors joins forces with a director at the top of his game. Variety have announced that Leo DiCaprio will star In Christoipher Nolan's new movie 'Inception'

The deal would mark the first Summer blockbuster of DiCaprio's career and the first time these two have worked together.

The project shoots this year and is slated to be released in summer 2010, with Nolan and Emma Thomas producing. DiCaprio's deal is in final negotiations.

Script has been kept under wraps but the studio terms it a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.

I knew Nolan would get a top class actor for his lead and I think many believed it would be Bale but hey, it'll do him good to get out and meet other actors!

DiCaprio can next be seen in Scorsese's 'Shutter Island'

Box Office Recap & Watchmen Predictions

Apparently there are some people out there who are really excited to watch the "Watchmen", so much that they are purchasing tickets in advance. Like any comic book film, there is an established fanbase, "Watchmen is no exception. Said fans are taking the report from www.movietickets.com as a sign that "Watchmen" is on its way to becoming a box office success.

MovieTickets.com just issued a press release claiming that Watchmen is outpacing 300 in advance ticket sales at 4-to-1 right now. But 300 sold more than 80 percent of its advance tickets on the Wednesday and Thursday prior to its release, so it’s too early for Zack Snyder and crew to celebrate. Also interesting is that IMAX ticket sales currently account for one-third of all ticket sales for Watchmen. This is shocking because only 124 IMAX screens will be showing Watchmen. 300 grossed $70.9 million in its first weekend, and went on to make over $210 million domestically, of which, $20 million was made via 62 domestic IMAX theaters. A couple dozen Thursday midnight shows are already sold out in New York and California.

Slashfilm: Watchmen Outpacing 300 In Ticket Sales

Personally I think "Watchmen" is going to pull in somewhere between 50-60 Million on its opening weekend blowing away the competition but will end up with 155-165 Million when it is all said and done. I think the 2nd weekend is going to see a significant drop and the legs are going to be like lead unfortunately. I think fans like myself are going to love it and it is going to be hit or miss with the general public due to the subject matter and length.

    Angelina In Disguise!

No she is not just out shopping, these are the first on set pics of the lovely Miss Jolie as Evelyn Salt in Columbia pictures forthcoming action/thriller 'Salt'.

The pics are from USA Today and include this interesting article with quotes from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura:

The most recognizable woman in the world is going undercover.
Angelina Jolie begins work today on Salt, a spy thriller about a rogue CIA operative who tries to clear her name after she is accused of being a Russian sleeper agent — perhaps falsely, perhaps not.

Among the many different looks she has in the film are a soft-looking, all-business blonde and a raven-haired femme fatale who easily could be concealing a dagger or a gun.

Which is the real Salt? That's what filmmakers say is the central mystery.

"She's a character you never know," says Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who also produced Transformers and the upcoming G.I. Joe. "People who think they know the real her may or may not. Those who think they can tell whether she's in a disguise also may or may not.

Jolie's character, Evelyn A. Salt, originally was called Edwin A. Salt, back when the role was intended for Tom Cruise, who dropped out last summer. Jolie is a proven action star after the Tomb Raider movies, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Wanted, but di Bonaventura says it wasn't as simple as changing "he" to "she" in the script.

"I had no idea how complex it would be," he says. "We had to rethink the whole notion of how a man vs. a woman operates in the business world, in personal relationship and in friendships."

The film co-stars Liev Schreiber (Defiance) as Winter, her ally and supervisor in the CIA's Russia office, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men) as Peabody, a counterintelligence officer who tries to take her down.

Salt is being directed by Phillip Noyce, who made the 1990s-era Jack Ryan films with Harrison Ford, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.

He promises Salt will be "a reality-based spy movie with action set pieces as thrilling as the most crowd-pleasing movies of this genre."

Comparisons are inevitable. Salt recalls TV's Alias, with its female action hero donning multiple disguises. It also will be measured against the current spy-movie trendsetters: the Daniel Craig reboot of James Bond and Matt Damon's Jason Bourne films.

Di Bonaventura says Salt is different because the character is trying to hide truths about herself rather than discover them. "The question of Jason Bourne is 'Who am I?' " he says. "The question of Salt is, 'We know everything about her, but do we?' (Her pursuers) have a ton of information to act on, but that's where they begin to question what is real and what isn't."

I'm quietly looking forward to this one, I am a fan of Jolie as well as the espionage genre and Noyce is a solid enough Helmer that can rise to the material, no release date is set for 2010 yet but I imagine it is being eyed as a Summer tentpole.

    New Public Enemies Poster

MSN Movies have gotten their hands on the new poster (Below) for the Bale and Depp gangster flick 'Public Enemies', directed by master craftsman Michael Mann the film chronicles the rise of J. Edgar Hoover's FBI and the manhunt for legendary bank robber John Dillinger (Depp).

The poster evokes a mix of 'The Untouchables' and 'Road to Perdition', yet surprises me in the fact it only has Depp on it, maybe Bale will get an individual one as well but I'd have expected Universal to really promote the Bale vs Depp aspect.

    New Terminator Salvation Trailer Hits

Yahoo! Movies has the exclusive first-look at the new trailer for Terminator: Salvation. You can either click on this link here or check it out below.

I was talking to my best friend (whose about to finish up film school) not too long ago and he was telling me how this was the one summer tentpole everyone he knew was actually excited about.

To his credit, McG has put the fears from most fans at rest ever since he first presented footage at last year's San Diego Comic Con. And this latest trailer certainly won't hurt. Looks great and it's nice to finally see footage of Sam Worthington in action after hearing about him for so long now - from this and James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar opening this Christmas.

So yeah, this will easily be one of the top-grossing films of this summer.

From Jay & Silent Bob to a Couple of Dicks?

If anyone's been listening to Smodcast, then you'll know that Kevin Smith has been talking about a number of films offered for him to direct after last Fall's Zack & Miri Make a Porno.

And the most recent installment of his weekly podcast, Smith and his producing partner-in-crime Scott Mosier discussed how Mos wasn't going to produce his next film to instead focus on making his directorial debut.

Well according to ERC Box Office, Smith will direct his Live Free or Die Hard co-star Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan (from the brilliantly funny but criminally under-viewed TV series 30 Rock) in Couple of Dicks for Warner Brothers.

Although the details are sketchy on plot, the film already has a release date: January 29, 2010(!)

Beside the absence of Mosier, the film will also mark the first time Smith doesn't have a direct hand in the writing - the script is credited to Robb and Marc Cullen. Although I'm sure Smith will go in and do some touch-ups here and there.

Look, I liked Zack & Miri. But it's box-office under-performance obviously had an impact on Smith - just listen to the two-part Smodcast where he and Mosier go into detail about "what went wrong."

That said, it's good that Smith is putting himself out there and hopefully it will work out in the long run - I think it will.

Bateman joins Clooney 'Up In The Air'

Variety is reporting that sardonic funny man and perneial supporting actor Jason Bateman has signed on to star alongside George Clooney in Jason Reitman's adaption of Walter Kirn novel 'Up In The Air'

George Clooney stars as a corporate downsizer who is obsessed with collecting frequent flyer miles at the expense of having a life. Bateman will play his boss.

I dig Reitman's work, I loved 'Juno' and I liked 'Thank You For Smoking' so I have high hopes for this one, I am not a huge fan of Clooney but he can pick decent projects that interest me now and then and Bateman is always good value for money.

'Up In The Air' is currently shooting for a projected release later this year.

Keira Knightley to star in 'Never Let Me Go'

When I read the blurb in Variety's article "Keira Knightley to star in sci fi thriller" I momentarily got excited, y'see I like Keira but I am so sick of her doing period pieces that don't interest me, however i then caught the three dreaded letters F...O..X....As we all know that usually signals doom, but then I actually read the article and it's Fox's superb indie arm searchlight that is handling this aforementioned thriller, so a collective sigh of relief all round I'd say.

The film is going to be directed by Mark Romanek who made the pretty decent indie thriller 'One Hour Photo' and who was attached to helm the remake of 'The Wolfman' until virtually shooting time.

    The synopsis is as follows:

Story revolves around a trio who grew up in a boarding school with no contact or knowledge of the outside world until they discover they are clones grown for the sole purpose of organ donation.

So it pretty much sounds like Michael Bay's 'The Island' only set in England and minus the car chases, but I am sure there will be more to it than that., I'm just glad Keira is ditching the wigs and corsets!
